Art Class: The Human Figure and Facial Expressions [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community! Today I'm joining you to share another day in the classroom. It's been quite an intense week because we have the Christmas Exhibition coming up, which will be our last art exhibition for the year. The thing is, we have new students who have arrived, and at this point, it's a bit complicated to get them up to speed since the group already has a head start in terms of the material covered. However, everyone in my class is working; no one is left idle because, regardless of the circumstances, everyone deserves to be welcomed and experience what the Drawing Workshop has to offer.

Ha sido una semana bastante intensa porque tenemos encima la Exposición de Navidad, que sería nuestra última exposición artística por lo que va del año. La cuestión está en que, han llegado nuevos estudiantes y para estos momentos es un poco complicado nivelarlos pues ya el grupo tiene ventaja en cuanto contenido visto. Sin embargo, en mi salón todos trabajan, nadie se queda sin hacer nada porque sin importar las condiciones, todos merecen ser recibidos y probar lo que el Taller de Dibujo ofrece.
This week we are studying the human figure, specifically faces and facial expressions. Taking into consideration the exhibition we have coming up, I decided that the best thing would be to incorporate the work produced in this class for that purpose. So, before working on that, the students did some quick drawing exercises to familiarize themselves with the person they were going to portray. Everyone had a partner and sat facing each other. They've already worked with time intervals (with a time limit between sketches), aiming for the loosest possible lines and focusing on the principle of moving from the general to the specific, only including the essential elements.
Esta semana estamos estudiando la figura humana, en específico, los rostros y expresiones faciales. Tomando en consideración la exposición que tenemos, decidí que lo mejor sería incluir la producción de esta clase para usarla para ese fin. Así que antes de trabajar en eso, los chicos hicieron algunos ejercicios rápidos de dibujo para familiarizarse con la persona a quién iban a retratar. Todos tenían una pareja y se sentaron frente a frente. ellos ya han trabajo con intervalos de tiempo (con límite de tiempo, entre un boceto a otro), cuestión de que el trazo sea lo más suelto posible y se concentren en el principio de lo general a lo específico, solo colocando lo elemental.
There were times when the students struggled to find the right likeness, as they sometimes concentrate on including as much information as possible and making it "perfect," but that's not exactly the idea. It was also fun to see them making different expressions, although they had to maintain their posture so their partner could locate all the elements and not waste time. Of course, we then created the final piece for the exhibition, taking this exercise into account. We divided the sheet into four sections where different emotions would be placed: anger, sadness, joy, and a free expression that they would agree upon with their partner. Overall, they did quite well, although, of course, there are certain factors we need to correct, especially regarding confidence and managing frustration. We'll see more soon. Hubo momentos en que los chicos les costaba encontrar el parecido, pues a veces se concentran en colocar toda la información posible y hacerlo "perfecto", pero esa no es exactamente la idea. También fue divertido verlos poniendo diferentes expresiones, aunque debían mantener la postura para que el compañero pudiera ubicar todos los elementos y no perder tiempo. Por supuesto, luego hicimos la producción para la exposición y tomando en cuenta este ejercicio. Dividimos la hoja en cuatro espacios dónde se ubicarían diferentes emociones: enojo, tristeza, alegría y una expresión libre que ellos acordarían con su compañero. En general, lo hicieron bastante bien, aunque claro, hay ciertos factores que debemos corregir. Sobre todo en cuestión de seguridad y manejo de la frustración. Pronto veremos aún más.
