Art class: review of my students' exercises [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community! Today I'm joining you here to share with you part of what my weekend has been like. I mentioned that here in the city, and especially at school, we've had some students who have been sick, so it's not surprising that I've also been feeling a little under the weather. So, I decided to take it easy today and not exhaust myself with things I wanted to do, but ultimately, my body doesn't feel like going out and doing a lot of things. So I took the opportunity to organize my toolbox where I keep all the materials I use to work with the children: colored pencils, chalk, crayons, graphite pencils, string, scissors, plastic tape, and many other little things that I simply needed to put in their place.
¡Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle! El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes parte de lo que viene siendo mi fin de semana. Había comentado que aquí en la ciudad y sobre todo, en el colegio, habíamos tenido a algunos estudiantes enfermos por lo que no es extraño que yo también cayera un poco en eso. Así que decidí tomarme con calma el día de hoy y no agotarme con alguna cosas que deseaba hacer pero finalmente, el cuerpo no tiene ganas de salir a un montón de cosas. Así que aproveche para organizar mi caja de herramientas dónde llevo todos los materiales para trabajar con los niños; lápices de colores, tizas, crayones, lápices de grafito, cordones, tijeras, cintas plásticas y muchas cositas más que simplemente necesitaba poner en su lugar.
I also began to organize the children's work, asking them to give me all their exercises so that we could choose some of them to participate in the exhibition. It was also a good opportunity to check their progress. In just these few weeks, my students have made tremendous progress. Although I don't usually evaluate them, I recognize their strengths and weaknesses and work with them for the following classes. I am not allowed to evaluate because it is an extracurricular class, but I still have my criteria and evaluate in some way so that I can do the work I mentioned above. In this sense, the drawing workshop is quite flexible, and I think that makes the kids feel quite comfortable.
También, comencé a ordenar los trabajos de los niños, a quienes les pedí que me dieran todos sus ejercicios para que pudiéramos elegir de allí algunos de ellos para poder participar en la exposición. Aunque también fue una buena oportunidad para comprobar sus progresos. En tan solo estas pocas semanas, mis estudiantes han avanzado muchísimo. Aunque yo usualmente no suelo evaluar, sino reconocer sus fortalezas y debilidades y trabajar con ello para las siguientes clases. No sé me permite evaluar por la cuestión de estar en una clase extracurricular, sin embargo, igual tengo mis criterios y evaluo de alguna forma para poder hacer el trabajo que mencioné arriba. En este sentido, el taller de Dibujo es bastante flexible y yo creo que con ello, los chicos se sienten bastante cómodos.
Some of the photographs you see here are of my youngest students and some of the older children. The exercises feature some of the classes we did, such as geometric shapes and colors, the geometric composition of objects (practically technical drawing), as well as working with stamps and various media (paint, chalk, colored pencils) and free drawing. It's nice to see that many of them follow instructions, but also have the initiative to do something else on their own. I try not to eliminate any of that, because it's difficult to find that kind of motivation and, ultimately, as I always say, what we want is for them to be able to create, which is what an artist does: create with knowledge and skills. Algunas de las fotografías que ven aquí, son de mis estudiantes más pequeños y algunos de los niños más grandes. Los ejercicios presentan algunas clases que vimos cómo la de formas geométricas y colores, la composición geométricas de los objetos (prácticamente algo de dibujo técnico), también trabajo con sellos y medios varios (pintura, tiza, lápices de colores) y dibujos libres. Es lindo ver qué muchos de ellos siguen las instrucciones, pero también tienen iniciativa para hacer algo más por su propia cuenta. Intento no eliminar nada de eso, pues es difícil encontrar ese tipo de motivaciones y finalmente cómo siempre digo, lo que queremos es que ellos puedan crear que es lo que hace un artista: crear con conocimiento y habilidades.
