Hello, I hope everyone is doing well after the holiday season. I hope you've all recharged and that this year brings many good things and blessings to everyone in their family, work, and personal lives. For my part, I'm writing my first post in this community to share my Christmas experience with you. I don't have my New Year's photos yet, but I'd like to immortalize these wonderful and precious moments here on Hive. First of all, I'd like to introduce you to someone who, although she hasn't been physically with us since 1997, has remained present in our memories and hearts: my mother, Hilda. She adored Christmas and instilled in us so many values and lessons that have left an indelible mark.
Hola, espero que todos estén bien, luego de las fiestas decembrinas, esper que ya hayan recuperado la energía y que este año sea de muchas cosas buenas y bendiciones para todos en el ámbito familiar, laboral y personal. Yo por mi parte me dispongo a escribir mi primer post en esta comunidad para compartir con ustedes mi experiencia de navidad, aún no tengo las fotos de año nuevo, pero me gustaría inmortalizar aquí en hive estos momentos que para mi son maravillosos y un gran tesoro. Ante todo me gustaría presentarles a alguien que a pesar de que ya n está físicamente con nosotros desde el año 1997, se ha mantenido presente en nuestras memorias y corazones, ella es mi madre Hilda, ella adoraba la navidad y fue quién nos inculcó tantos valores y enseñanzas que nos quedan como una marca indeleble.
During this time of year, she had several traditions. Besides making the traditional hallacas, she also had this plaster figure of the baby Jesus that she had brought from Spain, which is still preserved with great respect and care inside that glass niche. Every December 24th or on Christmas Day (the 25th), she would change its clothes, dressing it in hand-knitted outfits that she had made. Since our mother passed away, one of my sisters has taken over this tradition.
Durante estas fechas ella tenía varias tradiciones, a parte de hacer las tradicionales hallacas, también tenía esta figura de yeso del niño Jesús que había mandado traer de España y que aún se conserva con mucho respeto y cuidado dentro de ese nicho de cristal. Todos los 24 de diciembre o el día de Navidad (el 25) ella lo cambiaba de ropa, le ponía vestidos tejidos a mano que mandaba a fabricar. Desde que nuestra madre no está, una de mis hermanas es quién se encarga de esta tradición.
Keeping family traditions alive is keeping your identity alive, knowing where you come from and therefore knowing where you are going; it is like having our loved ones with us in some way, the certainty that their legacy is present and that it does not fade away and will not fade away with time.
Mantener vivas las tradiciones familiares es mantener viva tu identidad, saber de donde vienes y por ende saber a donde vas, es como tener a nuestros seres queridos con nosotros de alguna manera, la certeza de que su legado está presente y que no se desvanece ni se desvanecerá con el tiempo.
Our Christmas dinner, thank God, was full of delicious traditional dishes like hallacas, ham bread, and chicken salad, as well as tangerines and papaya candy. It was also filled with very funny anecdotes from the past. My brother is very funny and made us laugh a lot throughout dinner, remembering his teenage pranks, like the time he borrowed his motorbike from one of our cousins, but he didn't know how to control it and ran right into an ice cream cart 😄😆. So he ran away as fast as he could, leaving the ice cream vendor bewildered but shouting insults. Luckily, no one was hurt and there were no material losses, just a fun and funny anecdote to tell the nephews.
Nuestra cena navideña gracias a Dios estuvo llena de deliciosos platos típicos como hallacas, pan de jamón y ensalada de pollo, además de mandarinas y dulce de lechoza (papaya) pero también de anécdotas muy graciosas del pasado, Mi hermano es muy gracioso y nos hizo reír bastante durante toda la cena, recordando sus travesuras de adolescencia, como esa ocasión en que le pidió prestada su bicimoto a uno de nuestros primos, pero él no sabía controlarla y se llevó pro delante un carrito de helados 😄😆 así que salió huyendo de allí lo más rápido que pudo, dejando al vendedor de helados desconcertado pero gritando insultos, menos mal que nadie salió herido y tampoco hubo pérdidas materiales, solo una divertida y graciosa anécdota para contar a los sobrinos.
And of course, family photos were a must, because that's what Christmas is all about: togetherness, strengthening bonds. It's not about showing off gifts or expensive clothes (that's consumerism in its purest form). It's really about getting closer to each other, fostering forgiveness and empathy, maintaining a joyful spirit, reviving traditions, and strengthening faith.
Y desde luego no podían faltar las fotos familiares porque de eso se trata la navidad, de unión, de reforzar lazos, no se trata de presumir reglaos o ropa costosa (eso es consumismo en su más pura esencia) en realidad se trata de acercarse los unos a los otros, de fomentar el perdón y la empatía, de mantener un espíritu alegre, de revivir las tradiciones y de reforzar la fe.
