Today I bring you a true gem I found on one of the bookshelves in my house. It's called Teresa, a book I bought for my youngest daughter when she was five years old and I wanted to introduce her to the world of reading. I remember how much fun we had together when I read the book to her, and later, when she was old enough to read it on her own, she told me she felt a connection with Teresa. And how could she not? Teresa was nothing more than the embodiment of the feelings and concerns we have in childhood.

Hoy traigo para ustedes una verdadera joya que encontré en uno de los estantes de libros de mi casa, se trata de Teresa, un libro que compré para mi hija menor cuando tenía cinco años y quería iniciarla en el mundo de la lectura, recuerdo lo mucho que nos divertíamos juntas cuando yo le leía el libro, y posteriormente, cuando ella tuvo edad para hacerlo sola, me decía que se sentía identificada con Teresa ¿Y cómo no? Si ella no era más que la representación de los sentimientos e inquietudes que tenemos en la infancia.

This book contains about three hundred very short stories (often only a page long) that recount the daily life of a little girl named Teresa: her interactions with her family, at school, and in other unexpected situations. In other words, it's the world seen through the eyes of a young girl, with her innocence and naiveté, but also with her curiosity and unique way of perceiving her surroundings. Teresa is spontaneous and free; she speaks her mind without fear of judgment because this is a privilege of childhood.

Este libro contiene unas trescientas historias muy cortas (a menudo solo ocupan una página) que cuentan las ocurrencias de una niña (Teresa) en su cotidianidad: la convivencia con su familia, en la escuela y otras situaciones eventuales, es, en otras palabras, el mundo visto desde la perspectiva de una niña pequeña, con su inocencia e ingenuidad pero también con su curiosidad y la forma de percibir el entorno. Teresa es espontanea y libre, dice lo que piensa sin temor a ser juzgada porque este es un privilegio de la niñez.

Most of the stories are narrated from the point of view of one of Teresa's brothers; he's the one who recounts all of the girl's antics. But one of the chapters I enjoyed most is titled "Questions and Answers." In it, he explains that when Teresa was enrolled in kindergarten, a teacher asked her several questions while the parents filled out a form. The truth is, the girl's answers to most of these questions are witty and poetic. For example, when asked, "What is the universe?" Teresa simply replied, "A big house, full of stars, where God lives and where we live too." When the teacher asked, "Who lights up the nights?" she answered, "Mom." 😚 "What is a mountain?" "A rock that grew because it wanted to reach the sky." In other words, Teresa doesn't overthink her answers, nor does she complicate things too much; she simply answers what she believes, what her heart tells her.

La mayoría de las historias están narradas desde el punto de vista de uno de los hermanos de Teresa, es él quien cuanta todas las ocurrencias de la niña, pero uno de los capítulos que más disfruté es uno titulado: "Preguntas y Respuestas" Allí él expresa que cuando inscribieron a Teresa en el kinder, una maestra le hizo varias preguntas mientras los padres llenaban una planilla, y la verdad es que las respuestas de la niña a la mayoría de estas preguntas son ingeniosas y poéticas, por ejemplo cuando le preguntó "¿Qué es el universo?" Teresa respondió con simpleza "Una casa grande, llena de estrellas, donde vive Dios y dónde vivimos nosotros también" cuando la maestra preguntó "¿Quién ilumina las noches?" ella respondió "Mamá" 😚 "¿Qué es una montaña?" "Una piedra que creció porque quería llegar al cielo" Es decir, Teresa no piensa demasiado en las respuestas, tampoco se complica demasiado, simplemente responde lo que cree, lo que su corazón le dicta.

It has many beautiful, large illustrations that help spark children's interest in reading. The letters are also large, and the stories are short, making it an ideal book for children learning to read or for those who already read but want quick stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end. The stories are fresh, dynamic, and fun, with situations that often make you laugh or fill you with tenderness.

Tiene muchas ilustraciones bellísimas y grandes que ayudan a los niños a despertar su interés por la lectura, las letras también son grandes y als historias cortas, así que es un libro ideal precisamente para esos niños que están aprendiendo a leer o para aquellos que ya leen pero quieren leer historias rápidas con un inicio, desarrollo y cierre inmediato. Las historias son frescas, dinámicas y divertidas, con situaciones que a menudo te hacen reír o te llenan de ternura.

But it's not just a children's book. Armando José Sequera created this book as a way to help adults understand a child's perspective, since as we grow up we lose that innocence and vivacity we had as children. Children can easily identify with this character, and it's a lovely experience for adults too, bringing back memories of our own children's antics at that age, or even our own childhood experiences. I highly recommend it because fun and reflection are guaranteed with this book.

Pero no solo es un libro para niños, este libro fue creado por Armando José Sequera como una forma de ayudar a los adultos a entender la visión infantil, ya que a medida que vamos creciendo perdemos esa inocencia y vivacidad que teníamos cuando éramos pequeños. Para los niños es fácil identificarse con este personaje y para los adultos es una linda experiencia también, recordando las ocurrencias de nuestros hijos a esa edad, o hasta recordando las experiencias propias en la niñez, así que lo recomiendo muchísimo porque la diversión y la reflexión están garantizadas con esta lectura.
