Continuing with this wonderful initiative, today I'd like to talk to you about Somos de Rancho, a channel I've talked about before, but this time I'd like to focus on the culinary aspect, which is very, very important on this Colombian channel whose moderators are sisters.
Continuando con esta maravillosa iniciativa hoy me gustaría hablarles sobre Somos de Rancho, un canal del cuál yo les hablé en otra ocasión, pero en esta me gustaría enfocarme en el aspecto culinario, lo cuál es muy pero muy importante en este canal colombiano cuyas moderadoras son hermanas.
What caught my attention about this channel is that the women who host it are very spontaneous and charismatic. Just as the channel's name suggests, it's based on the simple life of the countryside. Both women show us their lifestyle, and that of course includes cooking. They don't have complex utensils or kitchen robots, they don't even have a regular stove, but rather a wood-burning stove (like in the old days, and this reminds me of my grandmother). They also cook with farm products, completely organic, such as animals raised by them or fruits, vegetables, and greens grown and harvested by them.
Lo que llamó mi atención de este canal es que las chicas que lo conducen tienen mucha espontaneidad y carisma, tal como el nombre del canal lo indica se basa en la vida sencilla del campo, ambas mujeres nos enseñan su estilo de vida y eso desde luego incluye la cocina. Ellas no tienen complejos utensilios o robots de cocina, ni siquiera tiene una cocina común y corriente, sino una estufa de leños (como en la antigüedad y esto me trae recuerdos de mi abuela) además cocinan con productos del campo, totalmente orgánicos como animales criados por ellas o frutas, verduras y hortalizas cultivadas y cosechadas por ellas.
One of the videos I liked the most is one that shows how we can give a beautiful color to our recipes using achiote or onoto (as we call it in my country). They dedicated themselves to harvesting and preparing the seeds, which makes the video very interesting because it is 100% handmade.
Uno de los videos que más me gustó es uno que muestran como podemos darle un hermoso color a nuestras recetas usando achiote u onoto (como lo llamamos en mi pais) Ellas se dedicaron a cosechar y preparar las semillas, lo cual hace que el video sea interesantísimo porque es 100 % artesanal.
I really like this other video. In it, the sisters prepare spinach rice with chicken and smoked bacon. Their distinctive way of speaking (country slang), their charisma, and their simplicity give it a tender touch, but at the same time, it's nostalgic to watch them prepare their food. I insist, it reminds me of my grandmother when we used to visit her in the village. Although both the video and audio are of good quality, you can clearly hear the ambient sounds: the birds and other animals that are part of their environment, and this makes it feel more authentic, as if you were there. I've always admired the way they cook over firewood or charcoal; I think it must be very difficult since you can't regulate the temperature. And another thing I found very curious was that they blended the spinach directly with the water they would use to boil the rice.
Este otro video me gusta mucho, en él las hermanas preparan un arroz de espinaca con pollo y tocineta ahumada. La forma particular de hablar de ellas (argot del campo) su carisma y sencillez le dan un toque tierno, pero al mismo tiempo resulta nostálgico ver como preparan la comida, es que insisto, me recuerdo a mi abuela cuando íbamos a visitarla al pueblo. Aunque tanto el video como el audio son buena calidad, se escucha mucho el sonido ambiente: las aves y los demás animales que forman parte de su entorno y esto hace que sea más autentico, como si estuvieses allí. Siempre he admirado la forma en la que cocinan sobre las leñas o carbón, pienso que debe ser muy difícil ya que no se puede regular la temperatura. Y otra cosa que me pareció muy curiosa fue que ellas licuaron directamente las espinacas con el agua que usarían para hervir el arroz.
One video I particularly enjoyed is one where they make two delicious recipes with very ripe plantains, and I thought it was a great option because I've often had plantains that were overripe and then I don't know what to do with them because the texture is difficult to handle. In the first part of the video, they make a dessert that looks delicious. In the second recipe, they also made a dessert, but they incorporated cheese, which I think would create an interesting contrast between the sweet and savory flavors. In this video, I was able to clarify how these girls managed to keep their pots from getting damaged under the intense flames of the stove (they apply a mixture of ashes and water to prevent them from blackening).
Un video que disfruté particularmente es uno donde ellas hacen dos ricas receta con plátano muy maduro y me pareció una excelente opción porque muchas veces me ha pasado que tengo plátanos que se han llegado a pasar en la maduración y luego no sé qué hacer con ellos, ya que la textura es difícil de manejar. En la primera parte del video hacen un postre que se ve riquísimo, en la segunda receta también hicieron un postre pero incorporaron el queso lo cual pienso que haría un contraste interesante entre los sabores dulce y salado. Por otra parte en este video pude despejar la duda de como hacían estas chicas para que sus ollas no se maltratasen bajo las intensas llamas del fogón (le aplican una mezcla de cenizas con agua para evitar que se ennegrezcan)
I really thought this channel was a great choice because they offer authentic recipes. They don't prepare gourmet food, but rather simple but delicious food. They've often even improvised and cooked with whatever they have on hand. No one on this channel boasts or shows off anything; they're just two country girls who love what they do and want to share it with the whole world. 😉
De verdad que este canal me pareció una opción buenísima porque son recetas auténticas, ellas no preparan comida gourmet, sino comida sencilla pero deliciosa, incluso muchas veces han llegado a improvisar y cocinar con lo que tienen a la mano. En este canal nadie ostenta ni presume nada, son solo dos chicas de campo que aman lo que hacen y quieren compartirlo al mundo entero 😉.

What a beauty the content of these two sisters, country life is not for everyone and these women know how to live it, enjoy it and make do with everything that nature can provide, it is a very peaceful and beautiful lifestyle and the culinary part is excellent 😍
