Journey to the Center of the Earth [Book Review] ESP/ENG
Yesterday I finally finished reading one of the stories that always captured my attention, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and the truth is that I enjoyed every second of reading with its varied characters and the entertaining situations that the plot contains.
Ayer finalmente terminé de leer una de las historias que siempre capturó mi atención, Viaje al Centro de la Tierra, y la verdad es que disfruté cada segundo de lectura con sus personajes tan variados y las situaciones tan entretenidas que contiene la trama.
It all begins when Professor Lidenbrock discovers a parchment with a strange inscription, which his nephew Axel eventually deciphers. This parchment is none other than a map leading into the Earth's interior from Iceland. So, despite his skepticism, Axel decides to travel to Iceland with his uncle. There, they hire a guide, the friendly but silent Hans, who leads them to the Snaefells volcano. However, as they descend into the volcano, something catches everyone's attention: the temperature doesn't rise as much as they had expected. But upon reaching the bottom, the surprise is even greater when they find all kinds of ecosystems, such as giant fungi, forests, oceans, and even fossils of prehistoric animals.
Todo inicia cuando el profesor Lidenbrock descubre un pergamino con una extraña inscripción, la cuál termina descifrando su sobrino Axel, este pergamino era nada más y nada menos que un mapa que conducía hacia el interior de la tierra desde Islandia, así que, a pesar de que Axel es exceptivo decide emprender el viaje a Islandia con su tío, allí contratan a un guía, el simpático pero silencioso Hans, quien los conduce hasta el volcán Snaefells. Sin embargo mientras bajaban por el volcán hacia su interior algo llamó la atención de todos, la temperatura no aumentaba considerablemente como ellos habían esperado, pero al llegar la sorpresa fue todavía mayor al encontrar todo tipo de ecosistemas como hongos gigantes, bosques, océanos y hasta fósiles de animales prehistóricos
They all embark on a perilous adventure down there, full of challenges and amazing discoveries, until finally a stream of boiling water carries them to the surface inside a volcano in Italy.
Todos emprenden una peligrosa aventura allá abajo, llena de desafíos y hallazgos asombrosos, hasta que finalmente una corriente de agua hirviendo los lleva hacia la superficie en el interior de un volcán en Italia.
Although it's a science fiction novel, it's full of valuable life lessons and insights. Through their adventures, the characters have the opportunity to explore nature in depth, and the story demonstrates the extent to which human curiosity and the eternal quest for knowledge can drive them. The characters are very diverse, which is precisely what gives the plot its perfect balance. For example, there's Professor Lidenbrock, who is eccentric, curious, and daring; Axel, his nephew, who constantly questions everything and is skeptical, yet allows himself to marvel at what he discovers. He's the narrator of the story, so the reader makes the discoveries alongside him; and finally, there's Hans, the guide, whose pragmatic personality provides a counterpoint to the other characters.
A pesar de que es una novela de ciencia ficción está llena de muchos aprendizajes y lecciones valiosas para la vida, porque a través de sus aventuras los personajes tienen la oportunidad de explorar la naturaleza a fondo y además nos demuestra hasta donde es capaz de llegar el ser humano con su curiosidad y la eterna búsqueda del conocimiento. Los personajes son muy diversos pero es esto lo que le da el balance perfecto a la trama, por ejemplo tenemos al profesor Lidenbrock que es excéntrico, curioso y arriesgado, Axel, su sobrino, constantemente lo cuestiona todo, es escéptico pero se da la oportunidad de maravillarse con lo que va encontrando, él es el narrador de la historia, así que el lector va haciendo los descubrimientos junto con él, y por último tenemos a Hans, el guía, quién con su personalidad pragmática es el elemento que actúa como contrapunto entre los demás personajes.
The narrative is very rich, although the pace might seem slow to less patient readers. The language is also something to consider, as it could be somewhat complex for younger readers, since Verne uses technical scientific data. In this way, the novel explains in detail the geological formation of the Earth's interior before and during the descent. However, I don't think the author's language is necessarily complicated; rather, it could be useful for gaining and expanding vocabulary. But even though the pace is a bit slow, I had a lot of fun with the narrator's sarcastic comments because they are hilarious 😄
La narrativa es muy rica aunque el ritmo podría parecerle lento a los lectores menos pacientes, el lenguaje también es un asunto a tomar en cuenta porque podría resultar un tanto complejo para los lectores más jóvenes, ya que Verne usa datos técnicos relacionados a la ciencia, de esta manera la novela explica con detalles la conformación geológica del interior de la Tierra antes y durante el descenso, pero aún así no creo que el lenguaje que usa el autor sea necesariamente complicado, y más bien por otra parte podría servir para ganar y expandir el vocabulario. Pero aunque el ritmo es un poco lento me divertí mucho con los comentarios sarcásticos del narrador porque son muy hilarantes 😄
It's a novel that can be read by children, teenagers, or adults, and many times you even feel like Indiana Jones about to unravel a mystery; you can almost feel the excitement of the adventure as if you were there, like another character, because the author constantly stimulates your imagination. He was a visionary, a man far ahead of his time, so obviously it's a book that I wholeheartedly recommend.
Es una novela que puede ser leída tanto por niños como por adolescentes o adultos, y en muchas veces hasta te sientes como Indiana Jones a punto de develar un misterio, casi puedes palpar la emoción de la aventura como si estuvieses allí, como un personaje más porque simplemente el autor estimula constantemente tu imaginación, ya que él era un visionario, un hombre muy adelantado a su época, así que obviamente es un libro que yo les recomiendo con todo mi corazón.

No he tenido la oportunidad de leerlo pero por lo que comentas en tu reseña se ve muy interesante, he leído que Julio Verne era muy didáctico a la hora de escribir sus novelas.
I really liked what you said about the pacing. Sometimes I'm a little worried that Verne's classics might get too technical or dense with the geology, but knowing that Axel's sarcasm lightens the mood is quite encouraging. And well, that comparison of feeling like Indiana Jones has completely convinced me, haha.
