How to Sew a Pants Elastic [DIY] ESP/ENG

Hello, my beautiful and creative people 😃 I know that many of you, like sewing like I do, I must also confess that since I was given this sewing machine for my birthday I have not stopped making projects, and now that Christmas is near I am probably making many beautiful things to decorate, God willing, but this time I want to teach you how to sew the elastic waistband of a pair of sports pants, or overalls as we call them in Venezuela. The method is extremely easy and I am aware that there are many ways to perform this operation but here I am going to show you the way I learned it when I worked in a sewing workshop, it is an easy, fast and very effective method.
Hola, mi gente bella y creativa 😃 Sé que a muchos de ustedes, así como yo les gusta la costura, debo confesar además que desde que me regalaron esta maquina de coser en mi cumpleaños no he parado de hacer proyectos, y ahora que está cerca la navidad probablemente esté haciendo muchas cositas hermosas para decorar, Dios mediante, pero en esta ocasión quiero enseñarles a coser la cinta elástica de la cintura de un pantalón deportivo, o mono como le llamamos en Venezuela. El método es sumamente fácil y estoy consciente de que hay muchas maneras de realizar esta operación pero aquí les voy a enseñar la manera en que yo lo aprendí cuando trabajaba en un taller de costura, es un método fácil, rápido y muy efectivo.
The first thing I did was remove the old elastic band, which was already quite worn. To do this, you need to be very careful not to pierce the fabric. I was using a pick or thread cutter, but the ideal option is a seam ripper, a special tool for that.
Lo primero que hice fue retirar la goma anterior que ya estaba bastante desgastada, para eso es necesario tener mucho cuidado para no perforar la tela, yo estuve utilizando una piqueta o cortador de hilo pero lo ideal es un descosedor, una herramienta especial para eso.

I then took the corresponding measurements. I'm not going to give you the exact measurements because that depends on the pants size. In this case, they were my daughter's pants, but obviously, the measurements will vary from person to person.
Posteriormente tomé las medidas correspondientes, no les voy a dar la medida exacta porque eso dependerá de cada talla de pantalón, en este caso era un pantalón de mi hija, pero obviamente las medidas van a variar de acuerdo a cada persona.

The next thing I did was join the two ends of the elastic with a straight seam, making sure to backstitch to prevent the seam from coming loose. Then I opened the elastic and sewed another seam over it. This step is called "stepping in." By the way! I forgot to mention that the elastic I'm using is about four centimeters wide.
Lo siguiente que hice fue unir los dos extremos del elástico con una costura recta, asegurándome bien de hacer un remate para evitar que quede floja la costura, luego abrí el elástico y le pasé otra costura encima, a este paso se le llama "pisado" ¡Por cierto! No les mencioné que el elástico que estoy usando es de unos cuatro centímetros de ancho.

Next, I began measuring the four edges that would serve as guide points for sewing the elastic to the pants. To do this, I first marked the center (using the previous seam I made as a guide), then folded the elastic again and made another mark.
Posteriormente comencé a medir los cuatro extremos que servirán como puntos guias para coser el elástico al pantalón. Para eso marqué primero el centro (usando como guía la costura anterior que hice), luego doblé nuevamente la cinta elástica y volví a realizar otra marca.

Ok, at this point I placed the elastic band on the waist of the pants, and for that I used the marks I made previously, the center mark goes all the way down the middle and the ones I made at the ends go on the side seams (the ones that correspond to the legs) I secured the elastic very well with pins and I was ready to sew.
Ok, en este punto ubiqué la cinta elástica en la cintura del pantalón, y para eso usé las marcas que hice previamente, la marca del centro va en todo el medio y las que hice en los extremos van en las costuras laterales (las que corresponden a las piernas) aseguré muy bien el elástico con alfileres y ya estaba lista para coser.

Then I stuck the machine needle in very well to secure the piece and prevent it from moving, then I slightly stretched the elastic while sewing, obviously when I got to the point where the pins were I removed them and continued sewing.
Luego clavé muy bien la aguja de la máquina para fijar la pieza y evitar que se moviera, después estiré levemente el elástico mientras cosía, obviamente cuando llegué al punto donde estaban los alfileres las quitaba y continuaba la costura.
Then I folded the elastic inwards and sewed another stitch so that it wasn't obviously visible.
Luego doblé el elástico hacia adentro y pasé otra costura de modo que no quedara visible obviamente.

And this was the final result, the pants now have a completely new and functional elastic, so when you feel that some sports pants are too loose, you should not throw them away, but simply replace the elastic 😃.
Y este fue el resultado final, ya el pantalón tiene un elástico completamente nuevo y funcional, así que cuando sientas que algún pantalón deportivo te queda flojo no debes echarlo a la basura, sino simplemente reemplazar el elástico 😃.

Haces ver todo tan fácil pero la verdad es que este es tu talento, eres hábil con la costura y hoy has hecho un buen trabajo con este pantalón reemplazando la parte que no estaba vieja. Definitivamente, el mejor regalo fue esa maquina de coser 😀
