My Burnout Experience
Burnout just like worn-out simply portrays the state of ineffectiveness and exhaustion. Most times when I think about myself, I often say that my life is full of stories to share with the world. So, to break down the concept of the word "burnout", I will give out a detailed narration of one of my life stories.
What is Burnout?
When I was in my last year of high school, I experienced a real form of burnout. In this class, we had a few months to graduate from the school and we had to write two certification exams to show as proof of passing through formal education in the high school. My school for years now has been known for its excellent results from external exams. To maintain a good reputation, my school was ready to do whatever it took to ensure we prepared properly for our exams.

We were made to have classes from morning till evening with a leisure break of thirty minutes and a lunch break of one hour. A lot of my mates often slept in class and some even fell sick, those who could not bear the stress. During lunchtime, we often complained of a lack of appetite and strength to attend the next lessons. This stress didn't only end in class, we also had a compulsory night prep of two hours and thirty minutes before going to bed at the light out. I am a good night reader. But the stress during the day never let me concentrate when reading. I was one of the school's brightest students and they hoped for me to produce the best results in the state. I often slept whenever I tried to read in the night. This was a clear definition of burnout, I was ineffective, exhausted, completely swamped and wasn't able to perform.
Identifying Burnout and Overcoming It
Carefully reading through my story, one would easily be pinned down on how to identify a state of burnout.
First was that we were often fatigued. We lacked energy and that was why we were used to sleeping in class. To overcome this, all we needed was to shorten the time of study and lengthen the time of rest. What I am simply saying is that one of the causes of burnout is overworking oneself which could be overcome by cutting down one's tasks.
Lack of appetite and getting sick is also a symptom one could easily use to identify burnout. To overcome the negative effects of burnout, one is advised to eat at the right time and get some rest when needed.
From my story narrated above, I lacked concentration and effectiveness in my night reading. This is also a way of identifying burnout, the inability to focus and perform duties as usual. Rest was the only remedy I needed to overcome the effect of burnout.
Coping Mechanisms to check Burnout
I will continue my story and at the same time tell us how we coped later.
As time went on, our class representative wrote a letter of complaint to our proprietress who later considered us and developed a better timetable to suit us.

The new timetable gave us more time to rest, exercise and have more sleep. These were our coping mechanisms which yielded good results.
