Does Choosing a Better Type of Marriage Really Matter?

I was marvelled when I found out that this week's prompt is about marriage. I'm not married yet but for me, I would say the type of marriage I prefer to others is the traditional marriage and if need be, the religious marriage would follow.

In my tradition, it's often a traditional marriage first before the religious marriage which is often done in church. Why did I choose traditional marriage over the rest? It's a normal thing, anyone would always see his parents’ tradition as a perfect one. Since I have grown and experienced a lot of traditional marriage, I've come to discover a lot more behind the traditional marriage.

Traditional marriage is a kind of marriage that unites a man and a woman and in some cultures the man or woman may need to pay bride or groom price as an element of marriage. In traditional marriage, the parents of both parties must accept the union of their children as husband and wife before the marriage goes on to occur.

One of other unique features I love about traditional marriage is the fact that it never supports divorce. Very few divorce cases can be found in homes where the husband and wife were bonded through traditional marriage. During the traditional marriage ceremony, the woman must accept to never return to her father's house and promise to live with her husband in suffering and in affluence. The husband too is expected to vow never to be violent on her wife or plan on divorce too.

Traditional marriage for me is a way of paying respect to the earthly parents of both individuals for their ability to train them from day of birth till that very age. In my tradition where traditional marriage precedes religious marriage, it's often considered that religious marriage is more of thanksgiving marriage and vow making.

The cost of organizing a traditional marriage is actually less compared to that needed to make a colorful religious marriage or any other. The only cost required is the bride or groom price as the case may be and the cost of refreshments and entertainment.

During traditional marriages in my hometown, it's always more of a period of merriment. Nothing can bring joy to a community than the fact that there would be a traditional marriage ceremony because the entertainment and refreshments are often unforgettable.

It's often said that anything with advantages must always have some disadvantages. For me, the red flag I see in traditional marriage is the rituals carried out in some cultures. Some are even deadly. I learned of a tradition that the man would be flogged merciless to see how strong and ready he is for the marriage.
That's the issue with traditional marriage, some traditions carry out extraordinary and should I say inhumane rituals just to unite two individuals as husband and wife.

The advice I would give to those still single like me remains that before choosing which type of marriage, one must consider his budget, the criteria(traditional) and how strong the bond between them exists.
Some types of marriages cost a lot and that should be checked to avoid going bankrupt just after marriage. And then, some traditional marriage criterias are very discouraging, so before choosing which marriage is better, first consider your ability to fulfill the criterias.

Courtship is very important in marriage as the two individuals will know each other better and build stronger bonds so that even a serious quarrel won't cause a divorce between them.
