Character_THUMB_1.jpg

The Sapien Loop Series has over two hundred characters. The story takes each character on a journey. Many of their journeys are intertwined, but each character experiences them and the story differently.

This series of posts works through the characters in alphabetical order. We can see from their journeys how the characters are shaped over time. Their journeys also offer a recap and summary of the main plots of the story. I hope you enjoy them and find them useful.

Alex

Alex was a Downs resident. He was known for his collection of pineapple shirts. Prior to the collapse of Sapey, Alex ran the Downs Region branch of the Fruit Company. The Fruit Company was responsible for hiring fruit pickers and providing vehicles to carry and collect the fruit. He helped Orcille acquire a vehicle to venture into the Central Agricultural Zone. After the collapse of Sapey, he became the new self-appointed owner of the Fruit Company.

Alex was responsible for encouraging the residents of Downs to drink fruit juice when the water was contaminated. His efforts saved lives and prevented illness in many of the Downs residents. Alex was considered one of the senior leaders in the post-collapse world. He attended most of the main meetings and was consulted on major decisions.

Alma Bramley

Alma was the younger brother of Jason Bramley, one of the governors during the first collapse of Sapey. Alma was secretly involved in a back-breeding programme. She and her back-bred son, Jimbo, lived with an old couple in a small town outside of Adoy City.

Everything changed when the Government ordered all residents of Sapey to relocate to the cities. Alama and Jimbo were at risk again. Fortunately, the old couple had connections to a governor located in West City.

To escape detection, Alma and Jimbo were relocated to the West District House of Divine Knowledge. They were not safe for long. Enforcers stormed the House of Divine Knowledge. Along with other mothers and their children, Alma and Jimbo hid in an area beneath the temple basement. When the situation had settled down, they left the area.

Alma remained at the House of Divine Knowledge for the rest of her life. Jimbo moved to the new Adoy Region. The Linap and the Sapien genes merged again. This was how some Sapiens obtained the ability to shapeshift.

Angelo

Angelo was the clone of the Head Philosopher who was buried in manure inside a temple. The weight of the manure caused the temple to collapse into an underground tunnel. The body of the Head Philosopher was taken by the underground Linap cult to their underground city. They considered him some form of messenger, and his body was worshipped.

Around a hundred years later, the cult found a way to clone the Head Philosopher. The clone was named Angelo. Angelo suffered from poor health. To avoid physical contact and protect his health, he was kept in a glass room inside the cult’s underground temple. Angelo became the official leader of the cult and was given the title of High Philosopher. Angelo appeared to have a connection to the Linap he was cloned from. He had visions about the outside world.

Arthur

Arthur was married to Sophie and was the father to Eugene and Freddy. After Eugene graduated from his enforcer course, he and the rest of his family moved to Downs. Arthur got a job as a mechanic and trained his son, Freddy, to join him in the same line of work.

Arville

Arville.jpg

Arville was trained in the Cellrebrum training centre to become a Head Enforcer, but he failed the course. He acted unethically in a simulated challenge. This led to his initial arrest. He was not held for long because he had technically not broken any laws, as it was only a simulation. Collingswaggle visited him. He offered him an opportunity to be an enforcer in Adoy. He believed he was ideal to deal with the possible disturbances that were already brewing.

Arville quickly rose to the rank of senior enforcer, and he had his sights on becoming commander and then Head Enforcer. His opportunity came when two girls went missing after school. He arrested a suspect named Morgan. He threatened to throw a young girl, Darlene, off a building to find the location of another suspect, Victor. He found Victor arguing with Commander Vulay. He shot Victor in the back, killing him. He claimed he was protecting Vulay.

Arville interrogated suspects Morgan and Denise. He manipulated Morgan into confessing he was involved in the kidnapping. He tricked him into believing he was helping his daughter, Denise.

Arville proceeded to interrogate Denise, but she responded aggressively, denying any abuse from her father, Morgan. He used this to imply that Denise was a willing participant in the kidnapping. This was enough evidence to have both of them convicted by the Head Enforcer. Vulay was also convicted of helping and protecting the kidnappers.

Arville was congratulated and celebrated as a hero. He was promoted to commander, taking Vulay’s place. He still had unfinished business with Vulay, Denise, and Orcille, who was also detained with them.

After Vulay had been sent to Cellrebrum, Arville tried to attack Denise in her cell. Orcille came to her rescue by grabbing him through the bars. This just infuriated Arville. The next day, he came back for revenge on Orcille. He, along with a few other guards, attacked Orcille. They hit him with their batons, and Arville tased him until he was paralysed. Arville went on to sexually assault Orcille.

Pardi, Orcille’s father, found out about the assault. He wanted revenge. Pardi arranged with the Head Enforcer to have Arville sent to Cellrebrum to help Vulay with her rehabilitation. However, Arville did not know that he was also going to be assessed. Arville took this new opportunity to torment Vulay, who was drugged and hallucinating. Arville pretended to be Victor. He claimed he wanted to obtain more information from Vulay, but he was actually more interested in assaulting her. Dr. Cortex, the head of the rehabilitation centre, put an end to his attempts. He also considered him to have failed the secret assessment.

Arville was sent to the Capital Region. Pardi wanted Orcille to exact revenge on him. Orcille did want to do that. He gave Arville a chance to die with minimal pain, but Arville attacked Orcille. Orcille easily overcame his attack. The technicians came and subdued him. This led to a long series of painful tests and experiments, which eventually killed Arville.

Atlas

Atlas was stocking the refrigerator when he was unexpectedly promoted to the role of head of the Economic Institute. Atlas was clearly underqualified for the job, but that was the point. He was to become a puppet for James and the Hat Lady.

His first task was to announce the creation of new coins to replace the coins minted with Waldo’s face on them. These new coins were no longer made of precious metals.

Atlas was also responsible for announcing the results of the vote on allowing the genetic modification of the next generation of Linap.

Atlas was the chair for the judgement of those accused of sabotaging the stadium and at least in part responsible for all those who died.

When Tiberius became governor, Atlas was relieved of his position. Twaldi was once again named the head of the Economic Institute.

August Rezif

August.jpg

August was a first-generation new Linap. He had the enhanced intelligence from the serum but did not suffer from the other ailments that plagued the next and all later generations. August took over the ownership of the Rezif Pharmaceutical Company. He came up with the idea to create the two new species, Sapiens and Sapiods. He convinced Marlon Carvaress to help him do so.

August’s true motives were to advance genetic engineering so that he could extract DNA from Sentray eggs discovered in the North. He wanted to extract the genes that had advanced healing properties and would make him almost immortal. He succeeded in extracting the DNA, but it also changed his physical appearance. He became considerably taller and more lizard-like in appearance. This forced him to hide his identity.

August knew he would have to eventually change his appearance, as he could not live forever with the same identity. Over the years he took on many different characters; these include Governor Cromley, head of the Economic Institute Randall, head of the Economic Institute Senyek, and resource manager Colin. This made him one of the most powerful figures in Sapey for a thousand years.

Bastion

Bastion was a robot built by Octavius Spiro. He was his assistant in the Lake Region. Bastion was reassigned to the upcoming rehabilitation centre to be located in the region. Bastion operated using an early version of the Jennifer AI software.

Polly joined Bastion after she was turned into a cyborg. Bastion was responsible for helping her adjust to her new robotic components. The Sentray attacked the Lake Region. Unfortunately, Bastion, along with fellow robot Bellamy, was destroyed when Jennifer prevented them from escaping.

Belford

Belford was a large robot built after the Sentray attacked the Lake Region. Octavius Spiro built Belford using the parts he salvaged from Bastion and Bellamy. Belford was considerably less sophisticated than both Bastion and Bellamy, as an AI program did not assist him. Belford helped Octavius retrieve the seaweed to make the treatment for the Downs residents.

Bertram

Bertram was a recruit at the enforcing training centre in Cellrebrum. He and Carlos were caught eating chocolate cake at the canteen because they did not want to eat leek pie for lunch.

Bellamy

Bellamy was a robot built by Octavius Spiro. In the Lake Region, he worked with another robot named Bastion. Bellamy helped Jennifer communicate with the AI Jennifer chip in her brain. Bellamy did not survive the Sentray attack when Jennifer prevented him and Bastion from escaping. However, some of his parts live on in another robot named Belford.

Benny/L11

Benny was the nosy technician who worked with Demadrian and Jenna’s tunnel exploration team. After Demadrian returned to the surface, Benny formed a close bond with Jenna. They explored the underground cities that they had discovered. His bond with Jenna grew so strong that she wanted him to be frozen with them when the enforcers attacked. Benny was deceptively highly intelligent. This was somewhat masked by his social awkwardness.

Brian (North Guard)

Brian was a senior guard at the Alset facility in the North Region. He was ordered by Patricia Alset to investigate her nephew, Demadrian Alset’s activities at the facility. Brian led operations that caused the death of Demadrian’s test subjects, whom he had become attached to. In a rage, Demadrian killed Brian.

Camilla Alset

Camilla was Phallia’s oldest daughter. After the destruction of Carrington City, she became the leader of the western underground city.

Candice

Candice was the female Linap sent to kill Lily’s family. She and another Linap named Clyde succeeded in killing Lily’s parents, but Lily and her sister managed to hide using their special ability. Eventually Lily tracked down both Candice and Clyde. They were both punished but not killed.

Cellrebrum Canteen Worker

The canteen worker was a witness in the simulated investigation of the stolen items in the Cellrebrum training centre.

Captain/Commander Cecil

Captain Cecil was the leader of the western underground Linap guards. Flint sent him and a patrol of guards to help the east tribes search for the missing frozen Linap. His patrol encountered the missing Linap south of Location 3 near the eastern mountain range.

His patrol escorted the missing Linap to the Downs Region. As a reward for his success, Miro promoted Cecil to commander of the guards and enforcers. Unofficially, he had become more powerful than Head Enforcer Eugene.

Captain of the Guards in the North

The captain of guards helped end the rebellion in the North District. Chief Rundo assigned the captain to the North District to maintain the peace. Sanguine was uncomfortable with the captain’s role and power in the North District. After Sanguine’s family was attacked, Sanguine had the captain killed.

Carlos

Carlos was a recruit at the enforcing training centre in Cellrebrum. He and Bertram were caught eating chocolate cake at the canteen because they did not want to eat leek pie for lunch.

Cella

Cella was the artificial intelligence software developed and used by the Carvaress Company. It was mostly used to rapidly gather and compile information found on the internet to help answer questions asked by Pardi Carvaress. Cella was also used to monitor activity and Carvaress equipment. The Jennifer artificial intelligence software was based off Cella’s design.

Charles Leaw

Charles Leaw was the owner of the Leaw Food Company. He was also one of the first governors of Sapia/Sapey.

Chief Serinan

Chief Serinan was the chief of the North District and Sanguine’s father. He was killed in the rebellion.

Chief Strawly

Chief Strawly was Agriah’s last chief. He ran in the district’s first election against Vector the Ventriloquist and was easily defeated.

Claire

Claire was a scientist and medical expert working at the Capital Medical Centre. She discovered that Trisomy-21 was a genetic condition, and she invented a blood test to detect it. Her younger brother Jonah had the Trisomy-21 abnormality in his genes. Claire was one of the earliest arrivals to the Downs Region, where she dedicated the rest of her life to helping Sapiens with Trisomy-21.

Class Teacher in the VR World

Eugene was supposed to meet the class teacher in the virtual simulation, but she had been killed before he could meet her.

Clyde

Clyde was the male Linap sent to kill Lily’s family. He and another Linap named Candice succeeded in killing Lily’s parents, but Lily and her sister managed to hide using their special ability. Eventually Lily tracked down both Clyde and Candice. They were both punished but not killed.

Colin

Colin was the resource manager in the Downs Region. He was in charge of managing the region’s resources as well as resources that were salvaged from other regions. Colin was considered an important part of the Downs leadership team. Colin arrived in Downs not long before the Sentray attacked all the other regions. It was later revealed that he was another of August Rezif’s personas.

Collingswaggle

Collingswaggle.jpg

Collingswaggle was a representative for the Cellrebrum Region. He was later elected as a governor. Collingswaggle was a close friend and on-and-off-again lover of Pardi Carvaress. He helped Pardi increase his influence over the Sapey Government and played a key role in ousting Governor Lily.

Collingswaggle used the events that occurred in Adoy to trigger a vote of ‘No Confidence’ in the Government. This vote was a success and triggered a Governors Election.

Collingswaggle wanted nine representatives affiliated with the Business Sector to take governor positions. This was to secure them a voting supermajority. He was furious when it appeared Pardi had formed an alliance with Governor Lily, which appeared to thwart this attempt. This was not the case. Collingswaggle obtained the nine positions he wanted, and Pardi managed to win Lily’s trust. Arguably, a bigger victory than Collingswaggle had hoped to achieve.

For Pardi to maintain Lily’s trust, Collingswaggle needed to become distant from Pardi. This distance did not last. The Government and the Carvaress Company had been receiving reports of dead Sapes. Pardi claimed, based on the results of his company’s test, that the Sapes had been poisoned by dust from the wastelands, which had contaminated the Sapes’ water supply. Pardi claimed a solution needed to be added directly to the water supplies of the regions. Collingswaggle and Lily showed full support for Pardi’s proposed solution.

The next day, Collingswaggle was called to another urgent meeting with Pardi, the governors, and other relevant leaders in the Business Sector. There had been a serious train crash on the Sapien Loop. Such an occurrence had never occurred before. Collingswaggle blamed the previous Government for overspending on ‘rights’, which caused the Sapien Loop infrastructure to deteriorate. This angered Lily, who was disappointed that Pardi did not try to correct him.

It was not long before another emergency meeting was called. This time because of the major act of arson in the Jeed Region. Governor John wanted to blame the incident on the cutback on ‘rights’. Collingwaggle mocked him. Pardi linked the arsonist’s behaviour to access to the Southern Agricultural Zone. He claimed she must have been exposed to the contamination. This made his case for developing his solution even stronger.

It was almost time for the General Election. Collingswaggle had authorised the return of Vulay to Adoy to become the new Head Enforcer. He was impressed with the extent of her obedience. He also thought it would be good publicity for his election campaign to highlight the success of the Cellrebrum Rehabilitation Centre. Collingswaggle managed to win his seat as a representative for Cellrebrum and a position as governor in the Government.

Chaos had broken out in Adoy and Jeed. There was a rumour spreading that the solution being placed in the water supply was actually poison intended to harm or even kill the Sapiens. Collingswaggle pushed through legislation enabling the death penalty to be sentenced to anyone accused of spreading misinformation. This law change led to Lily’s arrest and ‘execution’.

Collingswaggle was the strongest voice opposing Dratsab and Rotiart’s bill to ban the House of Divine Knowledge. When the governors voted, he fell short of obtaining the supermajority to stop it. The vote went to the representatives, and their bill was passed. This led to widespread protests and then riots across almost all the regions.

Collingswaggle went to Cellrebrum to obtain Jennifer’s help in containing the riots. This meeting went badly for Collingswaggle. Jennifer, through Zolam, told Collingswaggle she wanted representation in Government. Initially, Collingswaggle laughed it off but soon realised she was serious. She said she was going to implant a chip in Collingswaggle’s brain to control him. Collingswaggle’s guards shot and killed Zolam. However, the threat from Jennifer had still not been averted. Therefore, the guards turned on Collingswaggle and killed him to prevent Jennifer from using him.

Commander in the No-Go Zone

The commander caught Sylvie and her son Tony in the no-go zone (part of the area that later became known as the wastelands). He assigned an enforcer to escort them safely to the House of Divine Knowledge in the West District.

Cornelius Turbo

Cornelius was the High Philosopher for the underground cult. He discovered the body of the West Head Philosopher, who was buried in manure, in the short story ‘Down But Not Out’. He preserved the body, and a century later, a clone was made from this body.

Cult Members

Not all the residents that escaped underground were satisfied with the Alset leadership. They broke off into several underground cities. The cult was one of these groups. The cult members follow the leadership of their High Philosopher.

Daily

Daily.jpg

Daily was an employee for the Carvaress Company. Orcille, who stole his identity to access the Carvaress Company, kidnapped him. Initially, he was terrified by the experience, but he gradually warmed to Orcille. He even agreed to escape the Capital Region with her. His attempt to escape failed, and he was taken back to the Carvaress laboratory to be used as a test subject.

When the Sentray attacked the Capital Region, Daily was able to escape. After the attack, he ran into the twins. He agreed to help them run their mobile pizza and pancake food truck. The three of them travelled through the wastelands to the Downs Region.

On arriving in Downs, Daily re-established his friendship with Orcille. At this point, he found out about her real identity as Orcilla. Daily committed as much time as possible to finding cures for the illnesses that plagued many of the Downs residents. This was until tragedy struck Orcilla. Daily fully committed himself to saving her.

With the help of the Downs residents, Daily was able to stabilise her condition and confirm she was still alive. However, things became more difficult when they were forced to leave the Downs Region.

Darius

Darius.jpg

Darius lived in Adoy with his family. Darius was the eldest of three children. He was also the most adventurous and outgoing of the three. Darius questioned the world around him. Things did not seem right to him. His curiosity led him to climb the outer wall of the region. In his attempt, he fell and injured himself. He was able to mostly recover, but the fall still left him scarred. A couple of years later, Darius joined a group called the Inquisitives. They also questioned reality.

Orcille, a senior member of the Inquisitives, made a presentation at the House of Divine Knowledge. This led to a chain of events that went very badly for Darius and the Inquisitives. When his love interest, Denise, was arrested for assisting in the kidnapping of the two girls. Darius fell into a deep depression.

Some months later, he volunteered to join a rehabilitation course in the Jeed Region. At first, he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Jeed, but things took a sudden turn for the worse. Darius failed the course and was given a medical procedure plus drugs that turned him into a Sapiod-like creature.

Darius’ brother, Demarcus, discovered him in the Southern Agriculture Zone. He recognised him by his scar. Demarcus returned Darius to Adoy, where he was reunited with his parents and Denise, who they had rescued from the local rehabilitation centre.

Chaos broke out in Adoy. Darius, his family, and friends escaped Adoy into the wastelands. They wanted to reach the Central Agricultural Zone. Denise desperately wanted to reconnect with Darius, but he seemed just a shell of himself. Orcille, whom they had met in the Central Agricultural Zone, gave Denise some drugs to give Darius. She hoped they could restore him to his former self. Sadly, these drugs had a side effect that made Darius aggressive. This caused Darius to accidentally kill Dermarcus and badly injure Denise. On realising what he had done, Darius took his own life.

Darlene

Darlene was Demarcus’ younger sister. She had an adventurous nature. She helped her family rescue Denise from the local rehabilitation centre. She joined her family to escape Adoy during the chaos. She made it all the way to the Central Agriculture Zone. Sadly, she was killed when enforcers attacked the vehicle she was in.

Darren

Darren was a candidate in the election in Adoy. He was not affiliated with either the House of Divine Knowledge or the Business Sector. During the election debate, he questioned the size of the bite marks on the Water Sapes that had been killed.

David

David was a resident of Adoy. He was close friends with Hamlet, whom he and Denise helped save from the Sape market. Some of the residents, because of his apparent lower intellect, looked down on David. However, he was incredibly kind-hearted and warm. Sadly, he, along with several others, was killed when enforcers attacked the vehicle they were in.

Dean

Dean was Joan’s adopted father. Dean and his wife Jessica went to the North District to adopt a child. They chose to adopt NB14583, and they named her Joan.

Delford

Delford was from Adoy. He was close friends with Polly and friends with Demarcus. Delford, along with his friends, was on the train when the track below it failed. Delford and his friends escaped the train by climbing onto the tracks and then down a pillar.

Delford wanted to be rescued by the enforcers, but Demarcus stopped him and the others. Eventually, they climbed to the bottom of the pillar and walked in the wastelands. Delford was extremely reluctant, as he believed the wastelands to be highly toxic. He was in a rush to reach the Southern Agricultural Zone or be rescued. Eventually, he encountered an enforcer patrol. They did not rescue him. Instead, they killed him.

Delilah

Delilah was a singer and dancer. She often performed at Pound Ball halftime shows. She was also selected to be part of Sanguine’s entertainment action team.

Demadrian Alset/L5

Demadrian.jpg

Demadrian was the eldest grandson of Locum Alset. He was born in the Carrington District but split his time between Carrington and North District. Demadrian was a great inventor. His inventions spanned many different areas. His most notable invention was a serum that would permanently increase intelligence if injected into a baby at the earliest stages of development. This serum was intended just for the Alset family. However, its existence soon becomes public knowledge.

Through a referendum, it was decided that this serum would become publicly available to everyone. This serum led to the illnesses that plagued the Linap from this day forward.

After the stadium tragedy, it was determined that the Alset family could not leave Carrington City. They were still required to continue inventing and producing new technology in order to receive the necessities to survive.

Demadrian feared that one day the elite in the Capital District would come to finish them off. They secretly continued to adopt the underground tunnels and cities, which he and his cousin Jenna had discovered. Demadrian invented a generator that pulled energy from the atmosphere and converted it into electricity. His generators were very powerful. They could easily support all who might choose to move underground one day.

That day eventually came. Demadrian and ten others choose to freeze themselves. They wanted to return at a later date once the current dangers had passed. This turned into a thousand years. When Demadrian was defrosted, he had lost his memories. Gradually, his memories returned to him. He soon realised he was faced with new dangers.

Demarcus

Demarcus.jpg

Demarcus was from Adoy. He was the younger brother of Darius. Demarcus was not as outgoing as his brother and did not strongly share his beliefs. Despite this, he still supported his brother as much as he could. Things changed for Demarcus when the tracks buckled beneath the train he was travelling on with his friends.

Demarcus and his friends managed to escape the train before it fell off the tracks. When the enforcers arrived to rescue the survivors, Demarcus was overcome with fear. He could not escape his memories of his previous bad encounters with them.

The enforcers left, and Demarcus and his friends were left with no choice but to wander off into the wastelands. This turned into a journey of discovery as the veil began to lift. He soon discovered that the wastelands were fake. Sapiods were not dangerous to Sapiens. Sapes were being reared and abused in massive slaughterhouses. The Jeed Region was not being used to help and rehabilitate the youth. Most shockingly to Demarcus, he found out that his brother had been transformed through surgery and drugs into a Sapiod-like creature.

Demarcus was now on a mission to discover the truth about what was really going on in Sapey and who was behind this. Demarcus met former governor Lily in the West Region. To the best of her knowledge, she explained everything to Demarcus. She also revealed to Demarcus that he was able to become invisible as well as shapeshift.

Demarcus returned to Adoy to find that one of his friends, Polly, had gone missing and that a train carrying the solution to add to the water supply had arrived. Demarcus worked with Vulay to reveal to the residents of Adoy that the solution that was being added to the water supply was intended to poison them. This caused panic to break out in Adoy.

At the same time, there was a rebellion occurring among the enforcers. Adoy was in complete chaos. Demarcus gathered his family and friends, and they escaped Adoy and headed towards the Central Agricultural Zone through the wastelands.

Demarcus experienced tragedy when enforcers attacked and destroyed the vehicle his family was in. His parents and sister were killed. Demarcus sought revenge, but Orcille prevented him from doing so.

The loss of his family had taken a serious toll on Demarcus; he was no longer the same. When Lily showed up, things became even more difficult for Demarcus. In his vulnerable state, Lily convinced him to kill Orcille. However, when the opportunity arose, Demarcus was unable to carry out this act. He realised that Lily had deceived him. However, she had now left, and he was unable to confront her.

In a shocking turn of events, Darius became aggressive and attacked Denise. Demarcus tried to save her, but Darius accidentally killed him.

Democracy Chasers Volunteer

A Democracy Chasers volunteer collects a package from the front door and brings it to Joan. The volunteer was clueless about what the package and the accompanying note meant.

Denise

Denise.jpg

Denise was from Adoy. She was the daughter of Morgan and Latma. After graduating from school, Denise became a member of the Inquisitives. Denise found out about the Inquisitives from Morgan, who was an active member. Denise shared what she knew with Darius. This fed Darius’ curiosity and was one of the reasons he attempted to climb the wall to look out into the wastelands.

The Adoy enforcers arrested Denise for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping of the girls. Morgan confessed to kidnapping the girls and claimed he coerced Denise to become involved. Denise denied she was coerced into kidnapping the girls and claimed her complete innocence. The Head Enforcer believed there was sufficient evidence to prove Denise’ guilt. She was held in an apartment that was converted into a prison, where she underwent a rehabilitation programme.

Around six months later, chaos broke out in Adoy. Demarcus and his family and friends took this opportunity to rescue Denise. Denise joined the Bramley family and fled Adoy for the Central Agricultural Zone.

Denise was reunited with Darius, but she was shocked to find that he had been turned into a Sapiod-like creature. She desperately wanted to bring back the old Darius. Orcille had some medication that could help him. It would not restore his original form, but it would help him regain some of his mental capacity and his old personality. However, there was a risk this medication could cause aggression.

After a short time, Darius began to utter words. Denise was overwhelmed with joy, but she was also impatient and wanted Darius to return to himself faster. Therefore, she slightly increased his dosage. This caused Darius to have nightmares. One morning when he woke up, he was confused and attacked Denise, badly injuring her. Demarcus came to her rescue, and Darius accidentally killed him. Darius realised what he had done and took his own life.

Orcille rushed Denise off to the Downs Region to receive medical help. On the way, they encountered a Sentray. The Sentray flipped the vehicle they were driving. The Sentray turned towards Denise and appeared to want to finish her off. However, Hamlet, who was running behind them, intervened. Hamlet stood between Denise and the Sentray. It appeared Hamlet was returning the favour Denise did for her when she helped rescue her from the Sape market. The Sentray eventually left. Hamlet helped carry Denise and Orcille to the Downs Region.

Less than two weeks later, Denise, Hamlet, fluffy Lily, and Scott headed off on a mission to rescue the remaining Sapes trapped in the industrial slaughterhouses. It was a tough mission, but they managed to rescue over a hundred thousand Sapes.

On returning, she met Vulay. She handed Denise a map she had found in the West House of Divine Knowledge. The map showed locations. Denise was curious. She headed off to explore these locations.

At each location, she found hidden chambers. In these chambers, she found pods with frozen Linap-like creatures inside. She reported her findings back to Orcilla and the other Downs leaders. They took little interest in what she had found because they were busy trying to address the health crisis in Downs.

Denise dedicated the next several years to finding and exploring these chambers. She found many of them had secret passages and tunnels below them. She also needed the time away, as she was still grieving from the loss of so many of her loved ones. Finally, when she returned to Downs, Orcilla allowed her to bring a team of enforcers and maintenance workers to explore the tunnels.

While exploring the tunnels, someone else showed up, defrosted, and took the Linap from the pod. Denise used her team to search the surrounding area for any sign of the Linap or the ones responsible for taking him. They had no such luck in finding them.

Denise and her team returned to Downs. The Downs leadership decided that the other frozen Linap should be retrieved before this unknown group took them all. Denise was a part of these teams.

At a location in the west, Denise and her team encounter the underground Linap. Denise and her team were held captive while another group of underground Linap contacted the leadership in Downs. Once the frozen Linap were found to be well and safe, Denise and her team were returned to Downs.

The final frozen Linap reached the Downs Region. At this point, the identities of all but one of them had been revealed. It had been revealed most of them were from the Alset family. The daughter of the head of the Alset was killed. Denise was arrested in connection to her murder.

Denver

Denver was a governor and representative affiliated with the Business Sector. Like many of the governors, he was a replacement for the original governor. He shapeshifted himself to resemble him. He was of a nervous disposition. He panicked when he thought Eugene had discovered his secret. Pardi found him to be too skittish and made sure he was not re-elected at the next Governors Election. Several years later, once the Business Sector had grown in popularity, Denver was re-elected as governor.

Derek

At the beginning of the twelfth loop, Derek was a forager for the Bramley tribe. He was the son of one of the tribe’s leaders, Elder Leo. He and his friend Matilda discovered a dead Sentray that appeared to have been poisoned. He discovered that a combination of algae and the pink pollen from the Roo flower was poisonous to the Sentray.

The Bramley tribe, with the help of the other tribes, set a trap for the Sentray. They were lured to the mountains where the tribes were hiding, and Derek and his team contaminated the Great Lake, which was opposite the mountains and was the main source of water, with algae spores. When the time was right, the pollen was released. It drifted down onto the lake. The combination did not kill the Sentray immediately, but it did make them significantly weaker.

As the tribes had trapped themselves, they were now running out of food. Derek led his tribe up the mountain. Sentray followed. This led to a confrontation between the tribe and the Sentray. The weight of the Sentray caused the ledge the tribe was on to collapse. The Sentray fell down the mountain, and Derek and his tribe members pursued the weakened Sentray. The Sentray were defeated and decided to leave the mountains. Sadly, Elder Leo was badly injured and died shortly afterwards. Derek became a new elder.

Dolce

Dolce was the leader of the first southern underground city. She hosted Miro, the leader of the east tribes, and his younger brother Flint. Miro pressured Dolce into agreeing to a new trade deal with them. He manipulated her by claiming that the cult tribe was going to attack her city if he did not offer more security. He then followed up with an extremely bad trade deal for Dolce.

Dolce counteroffered with a moderately better trade deal, and Miro claimed to be generous by accepting it. Dolce felt relieved and treated Miro and Flint to a grand feast and a performance by the technicians.

Dominik

Dominik lived with his wife, Priscilla, in a small town outside Adoy. They were taking care of Alma Bramley and her son, Jimbo. Alma was in hiding because Jimbo had been back-bred with a male Linap who had not been genetically modified.

Unlike the other second-generation Linap children, Jimbo was healthy. This also meant he was in grave danger. This danger increased when an order was passed that everyone had to move to the cities. Dominik arranged with a friend from the House of Divine Knowledge in the West City for Alma and Jimbo to be kept secret and safe. Dominik helped other mothers and their children gain access to the West City House of Divine Knowledge.

Donna

Donna was the child in the virtual reality challenge in the enforcers’ training course who fell down a well and died.

Donna’s Father

Donna’s father was the murderer in the virtual reality challenge. He hunted down and killed the parents he believed responsible for the death of his daughter Donna. He attacked the safe house where the mothers were taken. Arville let him kill them before he arrested him.

Donna’s Mother

Donna’s mother was found dead in her apartment in the virtual reality challenge. She had been killed by Arville.

Dr. Cortex

Dr. Cortex ran the Cellrebrum Rehabilitation Centre. He had been enhanced by technology. This made him more intelligent and enabled him to integrate himself with the advanced technology used in the Cellrebrum Rehabilitation Centre. Dr. Cortex upgraded himself with the Jennifer AI chip. This further enhanced his abilities, but this also meant he lost some and eventually most control over himself.

Dr. Cortex’s primary role was to prescribe rehabilitation therapy and assess prisoners. His methods involved drugging and placing prisoners into virtual simulations. This was to uncover the root causes of their behaviour and possibly change it. If a prisoner was believed to be rehabilitated, Dr. Cortex would put them through a virtual release to assess their expected future behaviour.

Prisoners who failed were designated as ‘gone cases’. They were either lobotomised to become fruit pickers or sent to the Capital Region as test subjects for the Carvaress Company. Dr. Cortex had made a deal with the Carvaress Company to fail certain selected prisoners.

With the arrival of the Jennifer AI chip, Dr. Cortex began chipping prisoners so that Jennifer could control them. Vulay was one such prisoner. Unlike the others, she was released and sent back to Adoy. After Adoy was destroyed, Vulay returned to Cellrebrum.

When Cellrebrum Rehabilitation Centre was destroyed by the Sentray, Dr. Cortex and Vulay escaped in a flying vehicle. During the escape, the chip in Vulay’s brain came loose. This enabled her to regain control over herself. She used this opportunity to jump out of the flying vehicle, which exploded in the air, killing Dr. Cortex.

Dr. Crane

Dr. Crane was Dr. Cortex’s equivalent in Jeed. He ran the Jeed Rehabilitation Region for troubled youth. He and Octavius Spiro built the Jennifer AI software. After the Business Sector-affiliated representatives took over the Government, Dr. Crane insisted that more of the youth fail the assessment so that they could be converted into fruit pickers. One of the youth that failed was Darius. When Mikayla, one of his top assessors, found out, she was furious. She set fire to their headquarters and sacrificed herself in the fire to kill Dr. Crane.

Dratsab

Dratsab was an elected representative for the Adoy Region and not long afterwards was elected governor for Sapey. His rise to power was one of the fastest in Sapey’s history. This was because of the rapid rise in the number of representatives affiliated with the Business Sector and because he was representing Adoy, which was at the centre of recent events.

Rotiart (Lily) exploited Dratsab’s inexperience. She used him to push through a ban on the House of Divine Knowledge. This caused chaos across all of Sapey. The enforcers in the Capital Region went to help the other regions. This left the Capital Region vulnerable to the Sentray attack. Dratsab was killed during their attack.

Duffo/L5

Duffo.jpg

Duffo was the first genetically modified Linap born. He was born in the Alset facility in the North District along with seven other genetically modified Linap. Patricia Alset ordered the guards to kill all the babies. Demadrian and the Hat Lady helped the babies and their mothers escape on a bus. The guards pursued the bus, causing it to crash. Duffo and another baby, Marlon, were the only survivors.

Duffo and Marlon were adopted by Ginger and were given the Carvaress family name. As Duffo grew up, he became power-hungry and greedy. He wanted to rule Sapey. However, his ambitions were discovered. Luckily for him, he was spared as others shared his desire to dispose of Governor Tiberius. Duffo was excluded from the plan and was instead instructed to lead the attack on Cellrebrum.

Duffo went missing during the attack and was presumed dead. However, Demadrian rescued Duffo. He brought him underground to safety. Hadrian told Demadrian that Duffo would not be safe underground and that he should freeze Duffo; Demadrian agreed, and Duffo was frozen at Location 5.

A thousand years later, Duffo was defrosted. He was taken to the Downs Region. The long freezing duration had caused him and all the others who were frozen to lose their memories. Therefore, he was just referred to as L5. Demadrian, who had also been frozen, began to remember things. He remembered Duffo’s name.

The Linap that moved underground at the time Duffo was frozen came to the surface. They visited the Downs Region. The underground Linap knew all about the frozen Linap and could name all but one of them. Duffo wanted to help the underground Linap take control of the Downs Region. However, Demadrian did not agree with this plan. Miro, the leader of the visiting underground Linap, informed Duffo that Demadrian’s uncle Hamish was the missing Linap and that he would be recognised as senior to Demadrian.

Not long afterwards, the frozen Linap they believed to be Hamish was found. However, nobody realised this was actually Tiberius. Hamish appeared to have his memories restored. Duffo desired to have his restored. He was taken to the underground campsite where he was treated by Polly. Duffo did not know that the Jennifer AI chip was also to be implanted in his brain. After the procedure, Duffo appeared to be fully on Tiberius’ side. He was given a position in his leadership team.
