Every weekend, the path to my mom's house becomes a little refuge. The blazing midday sun makes me seek, almost instinctively, the protection of the shadows. My faithful companions are the palm trees that guard the edge of the path; under their shelter, the heat becomes bearable and the walk, a cool pleasure. As I walk through those islands of coolness, I feel grateful, I can feel my entire body resting. It's a small ritual I deeply appreciate. That quiet and silent relief the trees give me is priceless.
