Río de Janeiro Botanical Garden, "to breathe a dream" (ENG/SPA)

Travel soothes the soul, and visiting places that were once just a dream becomes a personal victory. That’s exactly what happened to me on this unforgettable trip.

I visited the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden (Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro), one of the most important in Brazil and the world, boasting incredible plant diversity, landscapes, and history. The place is a hymn to life, as evident from the moment you enter.

Founded in 1808 by Prince Regent Dom João VI, it was initially created to acclimate spice plants like nutmeg and cinnamon, brought from India. Later, it became a scientific research center, and in 1992, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve.

We entered, but not before taking plenty of photos, and headed to the Chafariz Central. This area is dominated by a decorative fountain with sculptures, located near the garden’s entrance. The space creates a magical atmosphere, drawing you into its lush green world. There, you can’t help but feel the undeniable sense that an extraordinary walk has just begun.

We walked slowly until we reached the Cactus Zone . The cacti and other succulents are found in the "Jardim dos Cactos", an area dedicated to species from arid regions. There, we saw a variety of Brazilian and international cacti, arranged in a space that mimics their natural habitat.

Along the way, we were amazed by The Palm Tree-Lined Pathway. One of the garden’s most famous symbols is the "Aléa Barbosa Rodrigues", a stunning walkway flanked by majestic imperial palm trees (Roystonea oleracea), planted in the 19th century. This corridor lets you witness the grandeur of Mother Nature and leads to Lago Frei Leandro, another highlight.

"Lago Frei Leandro" is a reflective lake surrounded by vegetation, featuring giant water lilies (Victoria amazonica) and aquatic plants. There’s also a bridge and a small island with an aviary, home to birds like herons and ducks.

From there, our restless footsteps led us to the Orchidarium, a greenhouse showcasing rare and native Brazilian orchids. Its well designed structure, painted in white, gives it an irresistible glamour. Trust me, it's a visual feast where the flowers' beauty and vibrant color palette elicit gasps of admiration and sighs of wonder. The rarity of some specimens even challenges conventional beauty standards we've formed throughout our lives.

There’s always a moment to pause and realize how near or far you are from certain places in the city. And as we turned our gaze, an iconic image of The Marvelous City revealed itself before us there, towering among the trees in all its grandeur, stood Christ the Redeemer. It will always be a joy to behold, no matter where you are.

A visit to this place is a must for anyone coming to Rio de Janeiro. This garden houses around 6,500 plant species, some of which are endangered.

Viajar acaricia el espíritu y visitar los lugares que para ti solo eran un sueño se convierte en una victoria personal. Pues eso fue lo que me pasó en este paseo inolvidable.

Visité el Jardín Botánico de Río de Janeiro (Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro) que es uno de los más importantes de Brasil y del mundo, con una gran diversidad de plantas, paisajes e historia. El lugar es un canto a la vida, y así lo muestra desde su entrada.

Fundado en 1808 por el Príncipe Regente Dom João VI, inicialmente fue creado para aclimatar plantas de especias como la nuez moscada y la canela, traídas de las de la India. Más tarde, se convirtió en un centro de investigación científica y el 1992 es declarado Reserva de la Biosfera.

Entramos, no sin antes hacer varias seciones de fotos, nos dirigimos al Chafariz Central. En esta área reina una fuente decorativa con esculturas, se localiza cerca de la entrada al jardín. Está zona crea un ambiente mágico al que se introduce en ese mundo verde. Allí percibes la innegable sensación de que has comenzado una caminata extraordinaria.

Caminábamos despacio hasta que llegamos a la Zona de los Cactus. Los cactus y otras plantas suculentas se encuentran en el "Jardim dos Cactos", un área dedicada a especies de regiones áridas. Ahí pudimos ver una variedad de cactus brasileños y de otras partes del mundo, organizados en un espacio que simula su hábitat natural.

En el camino nos sorprende El Paseo con Palmeras a los Lados, uno de los símbolos más famosos del jardín es el "Aléa Barbosa Rodrigues", un impresionante paseo flanqueado por majestuosas palmeras imperiales (Roystonea oleracea), plantadas en el siglo XIX. Este corredor nos permite ver la grandeza de la madre tierra y conduce hacia el Lago Frei Leandro, otro punto destacado.

El "Lago Frei Leandro" es un espejo de agua rodeado de vegetación, donde destacan los nenúfares gigantes (Victoria amazonica) y las plantas acuáticas. También hay un puente y un pequeño islote con una pajarera, donde habitan aves como garzas y patos.

De ahí los pasos inquietos nos llevaron al Orquidário , un Invernadero con orquídeas donde se exhiben especies raras y brasileñas. Su estructura bien diseñada y pintada en blanco le da un glamour irresistible. Créanme que es un regalo a la vista pues la belleza y amplia gama de colores de la flores te sacan exclamaciones de asombro y suspiros. La rareza de algunas de ellas te hacen replantearte algunos códigos de belleza que nos formamos durante la vida.

Siempre hay un tiempo para observar y darse cuenta cuan lejos o cerca estas de algunos lugares de la ciudad y al voltear los.ojos se descubrió ante nosotras una imagen que identifica La Ciudad Maravillosa, entre los árboles se divisaba en toda su magnitud El Cristo Redentor. Siempre será un regocijo abservarlo, no importa donde estés.

La visita a este lugar es necesario para quien llega a Río de Janeiro. Este jardín alberga alrededor de 6500 especies de plantas y algunas en peligro de extinción.
