Bill Gates bought a whole street so his daughter could chase her dream

There is something so special about the way certain parents help their kids. You do not always see it being done in the moment. When I think of Bill Gates, I usually think of tech, Microsoft and his foundation. But he's not just that, he's a father to his daughter, Jennifer. He did something powerful for her and that has really surprised me. Years ago, she got serious about horse jumping. We are not talking about hop on the horse and skip around a course a few times now and then. This was training, competing, really committing time to jump horses.

The family moved to Wellington, Florida. This is where the top riders train. Bill Gates rented a house to start, I suppose he did that so she could be in proximity to the competitions and the coaches. Then he began buying property. Not just a house but house after house. One lot at a time. Even when the prices were insanely above the market. When he was through with th buying spree, he spent close to 38 million dollars. There was no big announcement of this. It happened slowly over the years, quietly over the years. A street that piece by piece, became hers.

It might come off as excessive. But there is something loving about it, too. Not because of the money, but the intention. 38 million is a lot but not for Bill Gates. The intention to create space for someone to dream in. Of course, most people can't get anywhere close to that. But even Melinda Gates said they raised their kids with rules, not just unbridled spending. They waited until later for phones. They did chores, they weren't spoiled, because even in billions they weren't handed anything.

I don't overlook that part of the story. The money is loud, the parenting is silent and sometimes, the headlines make it seem luxurious. But when you look at it closely, it looks and feels like a dad just trying to figure out how to do things right for his child.
