"Una travesía especial"// "A special journey"

Pensar en vacaciones puede tomar un sinfín de matices: Descanso, relax, disfrute, placer y mucho entretenimiento. Todos estos términos tienen algo en común, y es que apuntan a un tiempo en el que deseamos invertir una energía positiva y refrescante, que nos permita revitalizar nuestros ánimos y fuerzas, para seguir adelante con nuestra vida. Es interesante como en algún momento nos encontramos ante una posible salida o escape de nuestra rutina, y luego pensar en que hemos tomado la mejor decisión posible al respecto. Estas primeras palabras no hacen más que dar rienda suelta a una experiencia que empezó como algo fugaz y lleno de incertidumbre, para luego convertirse en un viaje muy especial.

¿Moyepo? ¿La Ciénega? ¿Pueblo nuevo de la Sierra? ¿De qué me estás hablando? Fueron las dudas que surgieron al escuchar de estos lugares que, dicho sea de paso, nos costó ubicar en el mapa. Mientras el GPS nos ayudaba a llegar a nuestro destino, la incertidumbre aumentaba con respecto al lugar en sí, sus habitantes y todo un ambiente natural con mucha variedad. Un clima bastante cálido asoma a las entradas de varios pueblos que a primera vista parecen revivir esos tiempos de antaño y de los cuales muchos solo conocimos gracias a los relatos de nuestros abuelos.

Thinking about vacations can take on a myriad of nuances: rest, relaxation, enjoyment, pleasure and lots of entertainment. All these terms have something in common, and that is that they point to a time in which we want to invest a positive and refreshing energy, which allows us to revitalize our spirits and strength to move forward with our lives. It is interesting how at some point we are faced with a possible exit or escape from our routine, and then think that we have made the best possible decision in this regard. These first words do nothing more than unleash an experience that began as something fleeting and full of uncertainty, and then turned into a very special journey.

Moyepo, La Cienega, Pueblo nuevo de la Sierra? what are you talking about? These were the doubts that arose when we heard about these places, which, by the way, were hard to locate on the map. While the GPS helped us to reach our destination, the uncertainty increased with respect to the place itself, its inhabitants and a natural environment with a lot of variety. The climate is quite warm at the entrances of several towns that at first glance seem to revive those times of yesteryear, which many of us only knew about thanks to the stories of our grandparents.

Desde el primer momento se percibe un espíritu de hospitalidad arraigado a la cultura de los habitantes. Aún sin conocerte, la invitación está más que abierta, y así sea con tan solo un vaso de agua para ofrecer, el gesto y las palabras reflejan un sincero espíritu de empatía fácil de captar y digno de encomiar. El trato es como de alguien a quien conoces muy bien y ahora ves después de mucho tiempo ausente. El respeto y la educación no brillan por carencia, y siempre están presentes las palabras que así lo dejan en evidencia, tales como "Usted", "por favor", "con permiso" y "muchas gracias".

Si no sabes qué tan desconectado podrás estar de la rutina o la ciudad, pues ¡No te preocupes! Este lugar se encargará de que lo notes. Aunque cuentan con el servicio eléctrico, las fallas son comunes y constantes, a veces hasta pasando más de un día sin dicho servicio. Tanto la telefonía como el internet también presentan sus dificultades, y dependiendo del clima lluvioso a veces la señal se pierde de manera total. A pesar de lo mencionado, lo que más me sorprende es la reacción de las personas: no se llenan de angustias ni preocupaciones, y en vez de quejarse simplemente ajustan sus actividades sin perder el ánimo ni la sonrisa.

Una de las cosas que bastante me sorprende es la libertad y la armonía con la que se sienten los animales. Si manejas moto o bicicleta debes tener cuidado pues los ovejos y los chivos andan a diestra y siniestra. Incluso las aves no sienten temor en acercarse, aunque tal cercanía debes manejarla con más prudencia si se trata de un toro o una vaca. Al ser un hábitat extenso y lleno de mucha vegetación, la experiencia es como si nosotros estuviéramos invadiendo su hogar, o por lo menos compartiendo un territorio donde ellos parecen tener todo bajo control.

From the first moment you sense a spirit of hospitality ingrained in the culture of the locals. Even without knowing you, the invitation is more than open, and even with just a glass of water to offer, the gesture and words reflect a sincere spirit of empathy that is easy to grasp and commendable. The manner is like that of someone you know very well and now see after a long absence. Respect and politeness are not lacking, and words such as "You," "please," "excuse me," and "thank you very much" are always present.

If you don't know how disconnected you can be from the routine or the city, don't worry, this place will make sure you notice. Although they have electricity service, failures are common and constant, sometimes even spending more than a day without such service. Both telephony and internet also present their difficulties, and depending on the rainy weather, sometimes the signal is lost completely. In spite of the above, what surprises me the most is the reaction of the people: they are not filled with anguish or worries, and instead of complaining they simply adjust their activities without losing their spirits or smiles.

One of the things that surprises me a lot is the freedom and harmony with which the animals feel. If you drive a motorcycle or bicycle you must be careful because sheep and goats walk left and right. Even birds are not afraid to approach, although such proximity should be handled with more caution if it is a bull or a cow. As the habitat is extensive and full of vegetation, the experience is as if we were invading their home, or at least sharing a territory where they seem to have everything under control.

Durante el tiempo que estuve en La Ciénega el clima estuvo bastante cambiante. Las primeras horas del día eran frías y con neblina, mientras las horas del mediodía eran un poco calurosas. Ya en horas de la tarde nuevamente retornaba la frescura y hubieron algunas noches donde la brisa fue tan fría y fuerte que era imposible durar mucho tiempo fuera de casa. Lo único que siempre permanece frío es el agua que en su totalidad proviene de los ríos y manantiales que nacen de la montaña.

Pero tal como todo camino tiene su llegada y destino, también este viaje para mi ya llegó a su fin. Realmente al volver, me queda una extraña sensación como si algo de mí se quedara en este lugar y algo de aquí se fuera conmigo. Lo que un día fue mucha incertidumbre y bastantes expectativas, hoy se trazan en experiencias que marcan un antes y un después en mi vida. En algún momento me habían hablado de este lugar, pero no hay punto de comparación cuando se trata de vivir dicha experiencia de manera personal.

"¿Cuándo regresarás?" Quizás sea el eco muy profundo de un corazón que desea volver. No es sino hasta ahora que me doy cuenta cuánto necesitaba este viaje, y recuperar esa sensación tan especial que sientes al viajar, primero con las ansias de llegar, y después con el sentimiento por tener que regresar. Por ahora me llevo un recuerdo refrescante que también ha potenciado mis ánimos y mis fuerzas, con nuevas anécdotas y amigos que ahora forman parte de mi vida. Probablemente este no será el único viaje de este año, pero no cabe duda de que semejante experiencia ha alimentado mi alma viajera.

During my time in La Cienega the weather was quite changeable. The first hours of the day were cold and foggy, while the midday hours were a bit hot. In the afternoon it was cool again and there were some nights where the breeze was so cold and strong that it was impossible to stay out of the house for a long time. The only thing that always remains cold is the water that comes from the rivers and springs that spring from the mountain.

But just as every road has its arrival and destination, this trip for me also came to an end. When I return, I am left with a strange sensation as if something of me stayed in this place and something from here left with me. What one day was a lot of uncertainty and many expectations, today are traced in experiences that mark a before and after in my life. At some point I had been told about this place, but there is no point of comparison when it comes to live this experience in a personal way.

"When will you be back?" Perhaps it is the deep echo of a heart yearning to return. It is not until now that I realize how much I needed this trip, and to recover that special feeling you feel when traveling, first with the anxiousness to arrive, and then with the feeling of having to return. For now I take with me a refreshing memory that has also boosted my spirits and strength, with new anecdotes and friends that are now part of my life. This will probably not be the only trip this year, but there is no doubt that such an experience has nourished my traveling soul.
