ANOTHER DAY AS A NURSE
It was a casual Sunday morning for Amanda. She had spent the night at the hospital and she had bags under her eyes from the lack of sleep.
She let out a sigh of relief as nurse Missy walked in to begin her shift.
Nurse Missy chuckled when she saw the look on Amanda's face "rough night huh"
Amanda snorted "you do not wanna know what happened"
Missy nodded her head, trying to hold in her laugh. The older woman had spent almost thirty years of her life as a nurse. She has had her fair share of bad days at work too.
Amanda grabbed her bag as she prepared to leave "see you later missy" she said "I'm gonna hit the sacks"
"Bye cupcake" missy replied in amusement
Amanda waved her off and walked out of the hospital. She took in a long breath and exhaled heavily.
She crinkled her nose "Gosh I hate that hospital smell"
Amanda's house was an hours walk from the hospital, but today she was too tired to do anything but sleep. She hailed a cab and got in.
She closed her eyes as the ride began and soon she was halfway asleep. The driver had to yell out to her to wake her up.
"Oh I'm so sorry" she apologized, rushing out and giving the driver his money.
She dragged her tired body to her front porch, half awake and half asleep. The thought of lying down on her soft bed with plushy pillows enticed her and she had never felt so in love with sleep.
Amanda dipped her hand into her left pocket but her hand came back empty. She dipped into the right one and it was the same thing. By this time, she had began to panic. She searched all her pockets and searched her bag but it also came out empty.
"Where is my key" she said in panick. Her sleep deprived eyes were wide in panic and her heart was beating fast.
She couldn't go back to the hospital, she was too tired and spending another money on cab fare was stretching her budget. It was barely the end of the month and she had exhausted almost half of her income.
She dragged her hands across her face "I need to sleep" she muttered
Her brown eyes lit up as an idea came into mind
"Necessity is the mother of inventions" she whispered to herself.
She walked to the back of her house and grabbed the plastic chairs. She stacked them on top of each other until they were high enough for what she wanted.
With a little difficulty, she dragged the chairs to the front of her house and climbed on top. The top of her ceiling had a little opening and she wiggled her slender body right through it.
She began to sweat from the heat as she crawled through the roof like a worm. She crawled all the way to her bathroom which also had an opening.
"Finally" she said, dusting off the dirt from her clothes as she got down.
She took off her now dirty clothes and walked into the bathroom to take a bath.
The moment her skin made contact with her bed, she drifted off into a deep slumber.
What a hell of a day it was.
Certainly, what a hell to have to deal with not being able to enter your home. It's a deep and frustrating rage to feel like you forgot your keys. Very good narration.
I've definitely had one of those bad days 😂

Hello @caithlyn. The story has a clever twist and your narrative is well realized. However, it is rather lean, at 557 words. It could use more development. Also, you have engaged with only one other author in this round. We ask that writers engage with at least two. We have curated your story, but the curation rewards were influenced by level of engagement and also by story development.
We look forward to reading more stories from you.
Thank you very much @inkwell, I'll be sure to engage more🥰🥰
Indeed desperate times calls for desperate measures... One of those times Amanda would glad she kept a petit frame. Plus that sleep after an exhausting day sure hits differently.
That's so true. The world could be ending and you'll still be sleeping 😴 lol
Thanks for stopping by 🤗

Hahahaha 😅 she'll figure it out.
