Some tips and ultimate checklist for house hunters
I spent two years in darkness in my former apartment, and because of this, I vow never to live in a downstairs apartment again.
The lack of ventilation was only part of the problem faced; there are others like poor network, water leakage, and ant infestation.

I usually wonder why I fall in sick often in the past two years to the extent that I even fainted, which was the first time such would ever happen to me. I blame the apartment due to the lack of ventilation. Before I could open the door to get a cool breeze, I was already gone, and thanks to my partner who poured water on me, just imagine I was living alone, and this happened, this is how some people died. When people eventually discover their dead body, they will wonder what happened. Some will assume they committed suicide, while others will think it is the evil they did that killed them; people will come up with their random assumptions.
I have moved to another apartment and am no longer in darkness... everything I needed is right in my current apartment, I have got 3 windows in the room and 3 windows in the parlor too, unlike my former apartment, which had only one window for the room...
My network is working so fine, both mtn and airtel are fast and planning to test spectranet soon, I know it will work too, also I have no problem with ant anymore, unlike my former apartment that if any food should touch the ground, within 15mins, ant will already find it and call their battalion to feast on it, I do not face such problem in the new apartment so all my worries are over and this is why I will be sharing some tips for others who want to rent an apartment and what they should look out for.
Little mistakes you need to avoid when on a hunt for an apartment! The best time to search for an apartment is during the raining season, you will be able to know if the area is flooded and if the house is safe from the flood, I have seen people rent house during dry season and have to pack out during the rainy season due to how the rain deal with them.

Communicate with the tenant: During the time I was packing my stuff to move out of the old house, a lot of people came to check the apartment, but one of them was a smart lady... She came with an agent and you know how this agent always have something good to say about a house they are seeing for the first time, after hyping how the house is good and all that, and I see how he was so jovial with the lady which made me ask if they were couple and that was when I knew it was an agent/client relationship, so after they were done with the inspection and left, I heard a knock on the door and it was the lady, she sat down and ask me if there is anything she needs to do that I should please tell her if she should rent the apartment or not, her statement made me remember the day I rented the apartment too, I met the old occupant and we greeted each other but it never occurred to me to ask him if the apartment was good. I was smitten by the lady's smartness, and I listed all the problems I was facing in the apartment, and she needed no interpreter to know she should not rent it. She thanked me and left...
A lot of people failed to do this, and it is very important, whenever you go to check out an apartment, communicate with the tenants there to know if there is anything you need to know about the house and the area before you rent an apartment that you will later regret.
Test the network in the apartment: If you do not want to end up like me, that I will put my router outside just to get network and sometimes it is my phone I will drop outside because of network, if I want to do anything regarding network, I will have to go outside, can't even stream a movie with ease without going out to download, I lost 700 dollars because of the network issue, I bought this memecoin for 15 dollars and in the night around that past 10, it pumped to 900 dollars, my allies tried to call me but my number was not going until I woke up in the midnight myself, it was already late cos it has dipped to 100 dollars, it was so painful but there was nothing I could do. if you do not want to suffer like me, make sure you test how strong the network is in that apartment you want to rent before you pay, there is a code they use to do that, you can check it on google, my easy way of knowing is if my iPhone brings 5g then the network is strong and that was the first sign i saw when i wanted to rent my new apartment.

Prepaid meter check: This is another thing that many people don't check until they enter, when you want to rent an apartment, ask or try to confirm if there is any debt on the prepaid meter before you will be the one to pay a debt you didn't use and also if possible go for a house with a personal prepaid because of the issue that arise with shared prepaid meter... In some houses, they don't use electricity during the day until night, and you can't complain, especially when the majority agrees to it... What will be the fate of remote workers, so it is better to have your personal prepaid and save yourself that stress and also the issue of one person using things that consumes more power, this has been solved with the reader but what will you do if your neighbour refuse to pay for token or insist you should only load at night.
Stable Electricity: In this era, when most of us work online, why would you want to stress yourself by renting an apartment in an area that suffers lack of electricity? Stay away from areas using less than 12 hours of electricity per day because you will be frustrated later, especially if you need the electricity to power your gadget often. I would give my old apartment credit regarding this because the light is stable, and it is more than 20 hours daily.
It was part of my requirement to get an apartment using Band A, but then the place I got is on Band B, which is still better, at least more than 12 hours of electricity per day, and I spend less on the electricity bill.. I was paying 24k for electricity in my old apartment, and now I pay 8k monthly for electricity, see the difference!
Last but not least is renting an upstairs, this is just my own taste, and I believe others have their taste too... One of the disadvantages of living upstairs is that it is difficult to move in your stuff, and some people also don't like climbing stairs... Aside from that, upstairs is very nice!... you won't have network issue like those living downstairs and you will have a better view of what is going on in your surrounding, also you won't have problem with ventilation!.

This is detailed. Very detailed.
Meanwhile, be sure the self-contained apartment you are collecting is self-contained in relation to water oooo, because somebody will fetch water so much that the head will be angry. #Talkingfromexperience. 😤
lol.. this too... I once saw a video online about a man who rent a shop and started his pharmacy business there, only for him to realize the place is vulnerable to water during rainy season and a lot of his goods got spoilt...
Wow captain, you indeed have a detailed knowledge of housing and as I also live at a rented room in the city, every point you told here is helpful to me. Byw I also live at at first floor and safe from those probles that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing such a detailed information rich article❤️
Oh that is nice... The first floor is still the best in my opinion and the best way to avoid common problems in houses.
Yes just by staying above the ground floor, you avoid some common problems lime rats, bugs snd cockroaches, unwanted salesman or other kind of troubles. But however, in summer time, you must wish for a one or floors above to block the hit, or if you end up being at the top floor, the heat will be killing you.
I doubt that because the materials they used for the roofing here won't let us feel the heat... oh yeah I forgot to add the rat-ish to my post.. no rat too😃
Haha 😅 about the roofing thing, we have that solution in here too, but our house owner did even better, he created shades over his rooftop recently, keeping down the heat well overall.
I remember when I was in school and I made the mistake of not finding a house during rainy season
You need to come see my apartment during the rain😅😅😅
E go be like river😅
eeyah... we learn from our mistakes and some other time, we learn from others mistakes.
Congratulations man. I'm really happy for you. The first house I lived in, taught me serious lessons. Infact these lessons was how I was able to eventually get the second apartment, which is where I now live. Imagine losing money because of network issues in a house
same with me, I learnt a lot from my former apartment and no way I will do such a mistake again in future.
Congratulations to you bro, I'm truly happy for you lol.
I think that those information are quite useful for those who need to change their house, and I think all of those points you mentioned here are important because a single issue can bring lots of trouble.
