Self-love over society's standards

One thing we should all know is that we can never satisfy everyone. People's preferences differ. Some people love dark-skinned men, while others prefer fair-skinned ones. Some men are drawn to women with curves, while others are more concerned with their face... It just always varies.

Tastes differ, which leaves us with only one choice... Self-love, Self-want, and Self-care. We can't satisfy others, but we can satisfy ourselves, and we will attract those who love the way we are. Trying to change ourselves to meet others' demands does not always end up well... Imagine you like a guy and he tells you he prefers ladies with Big B, and cos of him, you rush to do BBL, months or years later, the same guy's taste might change and no longer desire ladies with such qualities, what happens to you then?

Do not mind the blurry picture; it was taken in 2017, this use to be one of my favorite picture back then but see how it looks now lol, who knows if there will be better techology that will make the pictures we take now also blurry in the future and as you can see, I was a slim guy, and some people tell me that I am slim that I should eat more while there are also people who love me the way I was but then who cares about those who doesn't like my stature.

Fast forward to 2020, I started to notice changes in my body, and the same people who complain I am thin are the ones now saying I am getting fat, weird, right? lol but ofcourse people will talk, some didn't mean it in a bad way, you know sometimes most people that talk about ones body do it just so they could have something to talk about with the person, some say it as a compliment while some says it to mock the person and those set of last people, I don't tolerate them around me. Any derogatory remark about my body gets an instant lash back and social distance. don't need salty people around me who take joy in body shaming others, oh well, I allow family and close friends to say what they can, I believe that is their way of teasing me xd.

I rarely take pictures, but I am glad I took this one last month. It came in handy for this prompt xd.

I recently moved back to my former area after spending 2 years in Shomolu, and people who knew me before I left and those who also knew me from the first picture always exclaim that I am now fat lol.... Oh well, there is a big difference in the two pictures, but my current weight is still okay... I mean, I can't remain the same forever; the more we grow, the more changes happen to our bodies.

Even though we should not care about others' opinions about our body but that doesn't mean we should start overeating or overstarving in the name of a diet, which can later give us health problems... Obesity is not good, even if you don't care about what others think of you, there is a point you will know that your body is unhealthy, and you either have to eat more to gain weight or exercise and diet to reduce your weight.

The most important thing is to be healthy and comfortable with our bodies.

Honestly, what people think about us or our body is not supposed to be our concern. I mean, they have a brain, so they can think anything they want to think and as well as, mouth to talk.

However, we will not hind from the truth, that many persons need to take care or pay attention to their body, that what people says don't matter, does not make you to lose control over your own self and body.

Watching weight and good diet is one important thing everyone must focus on, Exercises and Good diet help to promote good Health and we need it...

We can't please people honestly. Anyone who is always looking for approval from people is in danger. The pictures you shared explained everything, tastes changes, a person who loves boiled yam today might wake up one day and decide that fried yam is the best.

It's best to stay fit and okay for ourselves and not for people..

Yes you get it man. People's taste changes with time so we should not live our life as peoples pleaser.

You are absolutely right, we really can't satisfy everyone.
We should all prioritize self love and care.

Thanks for sharing.

Taking care of our bodies should be a priority, but it should be done in a balanced way so as not to indulge in crazy behaviors that could be harmful to our health.

People's tastes are always indeed changing and I think there are some who get kind of attached to versions of us that we've outgrown. Some will tell you they knew or like you better when you're slim, others may say the opposite. For me, a rule of thumb is listening internally to myself to see whether I feel healthy enough on the inside, at the end of the day, that's what matters more that outside projections of one's stature :)

I was guilty of this sometime back, I made a friend in 2012, she was fat and I loved her the way she was, but sometime in 2016/17, she started dieting and lost her weight, like she became really slim and I was like oh no, where has the old you gone, I love you that way lol.. but then i guess i was the only one or with few others that like her old sef, more people love the new her and with time, I get used to the new her too...

In the end, it should be about what the person really wants and the kind of body they feel comfortable in.

It doesn't matter what other thinks about you as long as you think you body is ok and fit.
Self-satisfion is important.

The more we grow, the more changes in our bodies.. You are right, Burl. People's tastes differ, and as long as we keep listening to them, we will always end up feeling unsatisfied. Those who say you are slim today will still complain if you add weight tomorrow. It is so sad that those who please people are still out there and never have peace because they allow others to dictate how they should look or not. For people like this who make derogatory remarks about my body or look, I stay away from them and have learnt to appreciate who I am, even before they try to compliment me.

yea cutting such people off is the best thing to do, no one should pass derogatory remarks to one's look, not even as a joke...

It doesn't look "fat" actually. It looks "cuter" instead. I mean the pictures.

Actually, I would say, rather, they didn't expect you to grow because the new look is more mature and more manly. 😂
