From Zero to Web3: A friend's introduction changed everything

How time flies, I remember vividly the year and month I first heard about Web3, It was in November 2017 and it was through a friend I made on the 2go app in year 2012, Without her I might have never heard about Web3, and probably still be wasting the years of my life teaching.

I remember how she entered my DM on WhatsApp that night. She told me about this magical platform where she blogs and earns money. She also told me she has earned 240,000 Naira already. It was too good to be true, but somehow I didn't argue with her, I just focused on the details of her text

After reading and comprehending, I told her I am not a writer, that I am not sure I would be able to thrive on the platform, but she encouraged me, saying there are a lot of people on the platform who were not writers, but after they joined, they have improved with time and their effort.

I didn't have the strength to argue with her because I was already tired of the life I was living, I was exhausted and needed a better life, so giving the magical platform a try is worth it, I had nothing to lose but everything to gain, so I told her I was interested and she gave me the details on how to create an account and 2 weeks later, My account was ready!... On December 8, my account was created, and that marks the beginning of my journey into Web3. Yeah, I started my Web3 journey on the Hive platform.

I joined during the bullrun season, and I watched many bloggers celebrating and cashing out big; all the WhatsApp groups created for Nigerians were bubbling with excitement and giveaways was flying up and down, those celebrating were the people who joined the magical platform earlier and it was their time to reap the harvest, I had nothing so I just observe as they rejoice.

I had some kind people who helped me with how to navigate the platform because I didn't want to bother my friend who introduced me, I don't like to be a disturbance to anyone so instead of asking her everything, I made few more friends and ask all of them questions in a way that it won't be too much for them to the extent I will become a burden and with time I was able to understand things on the platform and gradually things became easier.

I didn't realize another world existed outside the hive blockchain until 2018 when bitcoin crashed, many people also left the platform because everywhere was red but the saying we can't miss what we never had, I didn't enjoy the bull with them so I didn't miss it but it affected me a bit too... I heard about Bitcoin and other altcoins, but I was not interested in them, so I didn't explore until another friend I made on the Hive platform introduced me to an airdrop, and through that, I started to do research and explore other blockchains, and gradually I found myself where I am today, still learning and deeply rooted in Web3.
