Thunderbolts: A Weird New Twist

I finally got around to watching the Thunderbolts movie with my wife. It started out how I imagined, but it took a weird twist. It did it in more ways than one.

If you haven't seen the movie, you should probably stop reading here, because I'm going to discuss crucial plot points in the movie.

I found it odd that the main "bad guy" is basically the inner dark side of Bob. In order to stop him, the "heroes" have to deliberately get themselves caught in some other realm that appears to be inside Bob's head to an extent. The whole thing ends very anticlimactically as Bob is surrounded by his newfound friends, which causes "Bad Bob" to supposedly disappear into Bob's subconscious.

Now, the team who saves New York City from "Bad Bob" are hailed as heroes and call themselves "The New Avengers," but Sam Wilson is forming his own team and suing for trademark infringement? So now these "bad guys" are the "good guys?"

The whole thing ends on a weird note as it alludes to a reintroduction of The Fantastic Four. It was an interesting movie, but it ended strangely. I suppose they had to end it this way in order to keep the movie franchise going, but it seems like a desperate attempt after how Avengers: Endgame concluded.

We'll see what comes of it, but it certainly will be hard to live up to the caliber of movies we're used to seeing.
