Free Sterling Silver Bracelet from Scrapping

The best silver is free silver. The best way to keep my wife from being irritated at me for scrapping Sterling silver is gift her some of the good finds. There's truth to the phrase, "Happy wife, happy life." In the last lot I found, I came across a nice bracelet with quite a few stones in it. She liked it, so I told her it's hers to keep.

This one had quite a few stones in it, so it would've been a pain getting them out. I could send it in as-is, but I try to make things easier for the refiner since it's a smaller company. It's best to keep good relationships, and saving them some time is something I think helps, especially when I need to call and have questions about anything.

Since I recently got a gem tester pen, I was curious if the stones were real. Usually when something is set in Sterling silver, it's typically not expensive. That means it could be plastic, glass, Cubic Zirconia, Moissanite, synthetic diamonds, synthetic sapphires, etc.

I decided to test the bracelet.

Eleven lights means these are either Moissanite or diamonds. The pen can't distinguish between the two, and it also can't distinguish between synthetic and natural diamonds. For that I'd need additional equipment, and I'm not quite to the point where I'm reasy to invest in that just yet. Still, it's awesome the stones aren't glass or Cubic Zirconia.

If you haven't thought of scrapping for Sterling silver, I highly recommend it. Once you know what you're doing, it's a fun hobby that literally pays you to do it.

My money is on Moissanite. What's your intuition tell you?

Mine tells me it's Moissanite. If it were solid gold, maybe diamonds, but generally the cheaper stones are set in silver.

Could be moissanite. Could be tourmaline. Either way, its a sweet find.

Nice find! Probably Moissanite being set in sterling, but still very nice looking bracelet. I've never seen blue Moissanite, but I'm sure they can make it any color they want these days. It really is amazing what can be done in growing gems anymore.

Keep up finding those good deals on sterling!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm thinking Moissanite, too. My wife is happy regardless, so it's a win! 😁
