1st Photoblog of March: Celebrating a birthday on International Women's Day [Eng/Esp]
What's up Family & friends community! Yesterday was International Women's Day and this is really a particularly special day for me, because my best friend's mother has a birthday on the same day so the celebration is double! My friend and I hadn't seen each other since January 28th which was my birthday so we took the opportunity to celebrate and catch up.
Que tal comunidad de Family & friends! El día de ayer se celebró el día internacional de la mujer y este es realmente un día particularmente especial para mi, porque la madre de mi mejor amigo cumple años ese mismo día por lo que la celebración es por partida doble! Mi amigo y yo no nos habíamos visto desde el 28 de enero que fue mi cumpleaños así que aprovechamos para celebrar y ponernos al día.

I made a trip to the Galipán hills in Caracas very early in the morning to get a lily or Calla flower to take as a gift for that special day and as you can see she was very delighted with the gift, I guess working so many years in a natural history museum as a biologist has its advantages. The reason I hadn't met my friend was that he had traveled from Miami, Florida, USA, at the invitation of his sister who lives there and brought me this beautiful shirt, very appropriate for a university professor. The other thing is that, knowing my taste for whiskey, he brought a bottle of Kentucky Bourbon with which we celebrated this great moment with a toast of this dry whiskey.
Hice un viaje hasta colinas de Galipán en Caracas muy temprano en la mañana para conseguir una flor de lirio o Cala para llevarlo como regalo para ese día tan especial y como pueden ver quedó muy encantada con el regalo, supongo que trabajar tantos años en un museo de historia natural como biólogo tiene sus ventajas. La razón por la que no me había visto con mi amigo es que había viajado de la Ciudad de Miami, Florida EE.UU. por invitación de su hermana que vive alli y me trajeron esta hermosa camisa muy apropiada para un profesor universitario. Lo otro es que sabiendo de mi gusto por el Whiskey trajo una botella de Bourbon de Kentucky con el que celebramos este gran momento con un brindis de este whiskey seco.
Two cakes arrive!/¡Llegada de 2 tortas!
The birthday cake was a rather curious case. It turns out that my friend requested this fruit cake, mainly made of strawberries and peaches, which are the favorite fruits of the person being honored, but it turned out that a blackberry and kiwi cake ended up arriving. At first we didn't realize it, but the bakery called us to tell us about the error in the delivery and that they were already sending us the cake that we had originally ordered. When we asked if they would take the cake that they sent us by mistake, they replied that we shouldn't worry, that we could keep the 2 cakes without any extra charge! How wonderful! 2 cakes for the price of 1, the birthday girl couldn't be happier.
La torta para el cumpleaños fue un caso bastante curioso, resulta que mi amigo solicito esta torta de frutas principalmente de fresas y Melocotón que son las frutas preferidas de la homenajeada pero resultó que terminó llegando una torta de moras con kiwi, al principio no nos dimos cuenta pero desde la pastelería nos llamaron para indicarnos el error del envío y que ya estaban enviándonos la torta que habíamos pedido originalmente, cuando le preguntamos si se llevarían la torta que por error nos enviaron, ellos respondieron que no nos preocupáramos, que podíamos quedarnos con las 2 tortas ¡sin ningún recargo! ¡Que maravilla! 2 tortas por el precio de 1, la cumpleañera no podía estar más feliz.

Then we proceeded to sing happy birthday and cut the cakes! This moment, as I said before, is of particular importance to me, not so much because of the affection I have for these people, but because of the great difficulties we have gone through. Six years ago we had a 72-hour blackout in Venezuela and just on Women's Day, we couldn't celebrate and it was just the advent of greater difficulties because the following year the health emergency due to COVID arrived in the midst of all the political turbulence that we are still experiencing. But at least now we can be calm enough to properly celebrate this moment and be thankful because we were able to overcome these difficulties successfully.
Luego procedimos a cantar el cumpleaños y picar las tortas! Este momento como dije anteriormente es de particular importancia para mi, no tanto por el cariño que les tengo a estas personas, sino por las grandes dificultades que hemos atravesado. Hace 6 años tuvimos un apagón de 72 horas en Venezuela y justo el día de la mujer, no pudimos celebrar y era apenas el advenimiento de mayores dificultades por al año siguiente llego la emergencia sanitaria por el COVID en medio de toda la turbulencia política que todavía seguimos viviendo. Pero al menos ya podemos estar lo suficientemente tranquilos como para celebrar adecuadamente este momentos y agradecer porque pudimos superar estas dificultades con éxito.
And well friends, I must tell you that the cake was a real delicacy! I had my misgivings when I saw so much fruit because I don't like that combination of citrus and chocolate but its flavor was a pleasant surprise because although the fruit was on top, the base of the cake was made of cookie with Nutella, that is, the glory made cake! Y bien amigos, debo decirles que la torta fue un verdadero manjar! tenía mis resquemores al ver tanta fruta pues no me gusta esa combinación de cítricos con chocolate pero fue una grata sorpresa su sabor pues si bien la fruta estaba por encima la base de la torta era de galleta con nutella, es decir la gloria hecha pastel! No me queda más que desearle un feliz día internacional de la mujer a toda las bellas damas de Hive. Nos vemos un próximo fotoblog de marzo. Saludos!
