The SGS Meetup as an Institution

For the last 3 years SGS has had a real world meetup in Las Vegas each March to coincide with a Coin Show. I personally have not been able to attend one yet, but I have always enjoyed seeing the pictures and hearing the (wild) stories that come from these events. While I hope to get to an SGS meetup one day and may never be able to, I do consider the SGS meetup to be a really important community event for us to have on the yearly calendar.

In the past the main man behind pulling this awesome event together has been the SGS Legend @summertooth and yesterday he’s put out an important post about Passing the SGS meetup-planning torch. If you haven’t read that post then please do. There’s also been a follow up post from another SGS Legend and meetup regular @silverd510 about a potential Silvergoldstackers Meet up 2025. In summary - The conversation about the future of the meetup is happening right now so if you’ve ever been, or hope to go one day, now is the time to speak up!

For me personally, I definitely don’t want to see the SGS Meetup die out. I do consider it an institution and a tradition that is really important for SGS. I love the idea of Las Vegas, but I acknowledge that it might get a bit old for some of the regular attendees and if the meetup moved around to different locations that could be cool too. I recently joked that I’d host the next meetup here in Australia, but I think that would be so expensive for everyone that it’d be a total flop and I don’t want that to happen!

Whatever SGS comes up with I will support, of course. I’d just like to encourage everyone to get involved in the conversation. Even if you don’t think you can get there, its important to show some support and interest because you never know! I still fantasize about the year when HIVE moons and we all can get there to celebrate. Put it on your Bucket List if you haven’t already….

I do hope it continues and that one day it makes it close enough I might attend.

I’ve really looked pretty hard at a bunch of places. While I don’t want to get in anyone financial situation or pocket. Every other place I’ve looked at as an option was at least triple the cost of the 4-5 day trip to Vegas and that’s just flight and rooms. Everywhere else we’d need transportation as well which is a big added cost for all of us.
I’m willing to go anywhere within reason, but cost wise Vegas is our best option. And there’s still tons of stuff we haven’t hit yet. Last year was jamb packed every day.

I appreciate the effort you've put into looking into options.

There is always plenty to do in Vegas. It definitely gets my vote for whatever that's worth.

I mean, if you're going for affordability with fun shit to do, Nashville is pretty cheap. Ask @summertooth.

I hope it continues. My wife and I already bought a $500 SouthWest Airlines gift card in preparation. 😛

While I'm not a member of the community, I have heard that Vegas is pretty easy and cheap to get to even from the east coast. I read that rooms "off the strip" are also affoardable. For the European Hivians, I recall that Portugal was chosen as one of the early Steemfests due to its low costs for tourists. When I was planning my trip to Germany, I was shocked at the low air fares to Portugal from the US. Turns out Portugal is open for business and fun! :)

Portugal would be interesting, though I doubt this meetup would be feasible outside of North America at the moment.

I only mentioned that in case you were Europe-based or decided to take a trip across the pond. Back in 17' there was one flight back to the US for a surprising $200. That's like flying to PR from NY, super cheap.

The pictures from Vegas always look so interesting.
Although I'm not well versed in the travels of North America 😂😂, and I live almost in the other side of the world in a tropical continent 😂

I do hope it continues though... The posts after are always so nice...

Love this! I too would love to see it continue. I've been fortunate to have the time and money to do this for three years running. Nothing like meeting friends from the online world in person.

Whether it continues yearly or just pops up now and again when someone gets a wild hair to plan one, I'm sure it will continue.

And of course, if you are ever able to make it to the states again I will be sure to get to wherever you may be :D

I think everyone appreciates the effort you've put in. I've been living vicariously through the Vegas meetup each year and I like to think I am only 1 bull market away from getting there now.

C'mon HIVE - Do something! {pokes with stick}

I appreciate the appreciation xD

I know, I got the feeling you were close to maybe-possibly coming this year.

I too am poking HIVE with a stick, gently but firmly 😎

I'm in the same boat as you, I think. I'd love to attend, but the tickets from Japan are a little more than I can comfortably afford. But I also enjoy looking at the photos and hearing the stories. And if it continues, maybe one of these days I'll be able to swing the trip. When Hive or BTC moons...
