This Could Be Good, Right?

If you’ve been active on Nigerian social media, or at least in the news lately, then you’ve most likely heard of the new cable TV that has come to Nigeria. SLTV, this is the new cable that is currently rivaling DSTV and Startimes and if they play their cards right, they could very much end up dethroning both of them.

For decades, DSTV has had a choke hold on the Nigerian market, the South African company has been merciless with their Nigerian clientele when it comes to shelling out charges. It had been affordable back when the economy was somewhat endurable. But now, the story is totally different. We all know how bad things are, but these guys didn’t care, they chose to shoot their prices through the roof. And SLTV is coming in to save the day.

So far, I don’t have much info on the new company, although I do know that the Managing Director is a Nigerian man and the company is also backed by the Nigerian government. From what I can see, it’s about as Nigerian as it can be. Also, they’re promising at least ten football channels for football lovers (because here in Nigeria, that’s one major reason the other companies still have customers). And of course, there will be movie channels, music channels and what have you.

When you think about it, this is the kind of competition we need. These foreign companies have been bleeding us dry for way too long and it’s becoming unnerving. They refuse to learn from the mistake of the popular noodle company that decided to hike the price of their noodle for no just cause. It cost them their diehard customers and led to a major loss for them. Also, remember when Air Peace started plying the Lagos to London route, they drastically reduced the price and made it more affordable.

A few months back, DSTV increased its subscriptions astronomically, and it was met with great backlash. Many people swore to stop subscribing altogether, and eventually, they tried to revert to the old prices but it’s not just the same as it used to be. If you’ve been paying attention to them over the years, you’ll realize that they’ve been steadily increasing the cost of their subscription but we don’t really get anything new with regards to the services they render. Same old same old, just more expensive.

Thankfully, SLTV might end up being the answer to what we were looking for. I only hope that they don’t end up being worse than the competition because people will be willing to subscribe as long as it’s affordable and they also have good content.

Also, it would be good if this spreads to other sectors as well, especially the network sector. We need more players in the telecommunication industry because the ones we have there are all falling our hands. Both in the rates and how quickly they deplete data and airtime. Hopefully, if there are more players in the field and if the competition gets even fiercer, we might finally get better services and enjoy that which we’re paying for.

But then, I guess we’d have to watch and see.

Hmm
This is nice. I’d wait to hear people’s review on it to know if I’d get one or DSTV’s sense will be back to normal😅

I didn't hear about the news as it has nothing to do with me😅.
But it seems an interesting gameplay just started and the climax will be more interesting. I am waiting for the update of it.

This is what happens to a company or brand that has been dominating for so long, they tend to over do because they have no better competitor(s).

Now there's a competitor that comes so close to them, let's see how well both sides will do.
