It’s that time of the year yet again. Next week, being the first of March would mark the Ash Wednesday for this year. For Catholics, it’s a holy day of obligation, one where you have to go to church and receive ash. The significance of this is to remind everyone that no matter what, we all came from dust and we shall also return to dust when the time is right.

It’s a humbling event because it always brings us back to our origins, reminding us that truly, this world isn’t all that. We do our thing and try our best. We succeed and we fail, we’re happy and we’re sad. We’re disappointed and we break hearts. In the end, we will all die and we would all turn into dust. Eventually.

This is not a practice that is unique to Catholics, Anglicans are also known to practice it, so are Lutherans, Methodists and even some Protestants. It’s a widely accepted culture that is embraced due to the strong reminder that it carries. I know very well how distracting it can be. We focus so much on our jobs, responsibilities and what not, we forget that one day, we’d have to leave them all behind. Maybe having this reminder will force you to cherish each moment more.

But then, this post is not for me to talk about the Ash Wednesday. I’m actually here to talk about what comes after. Because Ash Wednesday would kickstart the Lenten period which would go on for 40 days and also signal the countdown for the Good Friday grand-finale. And as everyone knows, Good Friday comes with the Passion Play.

This is a play reenacting the Passion of Christ, where we act his final moments, from the trial with the Pilate, down through the entire fourteen stations of the cross and until the very final moment of crucifixion. It’s not really an easy deal, especially because we won’t be doing it in one place. It would be done on location. It starts in the church, and then parts of the fourteen stations would be acted out on the streets, mimicking the way Jesus Christ carried his cross through the streets on his way to Calvary.

This always calls for a lot, and for now, one of the needs is the script for the play. I’d really like to take a more active role in the Passion Play this year, seeing as I’ve not been able to do that in the past few years due to my school runs. I’m not planning to act though, I’d leave that for those who can do it. I’d help out with anything else. Especially seeing how I won’t really have the time to turn up for rehearsals if I decide to take up acting.

So, like I said, it’s that time of the year again. There is so much to look forward to, and I like the fact that I’m around for this one. I just can’t wait to see how it would all turn out. Let’s all watch and see, it’ll be great!

I’m not planning to act though,

But why Bruno...I challenge u to act

Here in my parish..the CYON has started their acting rehearsals every Friday... last year was so emotional..they acted just exactly the way we read it happened in the scripture...this year will be another game changer because I overheard them planning bigger for it

It's a season of reflection for Christians and watching the act is a practical way to remind us what Jesus went through for u and I , and thus the urge to change our ways so his suffering on the Cross wouldn't be in vain.

Thanks for this gentle reminder
.let the count down begin, indeed!. I hope you have submitted ur last year palm?
