A sedentary lifestyle can be one of the most tiring aspects of remote workers. Staying at home all day, stepping out only when absolutely necessary, can be very risky. And I’m saying this because I have vast experience with this. I’ve been a remote worker for quite a while now. Hell, I was already a remote worker even before I started earning any money, lol.

And then, depending on what you do, it basically involves sitting at a desk and working hard on your computer system. If you’re like me, you’d have a dedicated desk and chair for it, somewhere you’ll go to only when you want to get some work done. Not just choosing to work wherever the spirit leads you. And if you’re working with your phone, it’s even worse.

While everyone else spends money on transport, we spend so much on data subscriptions, especially if what we do involves watching loads of videos or working with high-resolution images. But that can be all, and for that, I’ve noticed that many remote workers don’t feel the bite of the exorbitant transport fares. Because you don’t use it every day, the few times you do use it, you can afford to pay whatever they call for you.

So, in situations where others will trek, you might find us taking bikes or buses. Not because we can’t trek it, or we’re too tired. Simply because we just don’t want to. But then, that’s a part of the problem. Because for many of us, we don’t take our fitness journeys seriously. Our days are basically spent at the desk or in bed. And then, when we step out to buy one or two things. On and on it goes.

Sadly, this isn’t even the worst part. It’s easy to get carried away when you’re working from home. I know how many times I was so busy with work that I forgot to eat. Many times, I’ll forget to have breakfast until late in the day, and I’ll also forget to eat dinner until almost midnight. Back in school, this was a terrible habit, because I would then force myself to eat at that ungodly hour, knowing that there might be no time for breakfast the next morning.

So, all these things happen over time, and soon, they start showing signs on your body. So, in a way, they’re not healthy at all for us. And that’s why I decided to take matters into my own hands and handle my fitness journey. Even though I don’t have a lot of places to go, I decided to look for places to go. I try to take long walks either in the mornings or in the evenings. Sometimes, I escort my Mom, or I would even escort a friend, walking with them either to work, or to the place where they’ll take a bus. By the time I take it going and coming, my body will have felt the strain.

I also do some basic forms of exercise. I try not to remain rooted to the seat for too long. I have an alarm that reminds me to get out of the seat and do something else. Even if it’s just to go round the house, opening and closing the windows. It’s good for stretching the limbs and getting the blood flowing once more. During this time, house chores can also be done. You can also play music in the background, giving your brain something other than work to focus on for the time being.

Being a remote worker is not easy. But after doing it for this long, we’ve found a way to manage it. We can work from home and still stay healthy. We can work from home and still be outgoing. It’s just a matter of how intentional we are. And if there’s something I can assure you of, I’m very intentional!

I can understand you as I also spend most of my time in front of my computer if I stay in home. I take my breakfast, lunch and dinner in time and it's good for my health. I only messed up with my sleep only otherwise there is no issue. In my case I go outside also and it's also related to money because I go outside to do tuitions (private tutor) which is also a source of my income.

Oh... since you have reasons to go out regularly, you're covered. That's good!
