Respect Is Canon!!!

They say that respect is reciprocal, but then, to what lengths can one be willing to show that respect? This is because, no matter how you choose to look at it, respect is always a choice, and you can choose not to show it, regardless of who is involved. Yeah, disrespecting someone can have consequences, but then, so does every single decision we’ve ever had to make. But then, every time we respect someone, it’s because we choose to do so and nothing else.

But then, one of the things that makes respect so good and beautiful is when it’s freely given. When someone just looks at you and decides that you’re worth that respect, it's probably from what they’ve seen or who you are. They simply give it to you, even though they don’t have to. And that’s the beauty. Because once that choice is taken away, it stops being beautiful!

You don’t ever ask for respect, because that just dilutes whatever it is that comes from it. It’s just like how it’s said in the Game Of Thrones that “Any man that has to say ‘I Am King”, is no true king.” Once you have to announce and demand respect, then it’s no longer worth it. Because when people see you for who you are, they know very well how you should be treated, and the fact that they choose not to accord you that respect says a lot about who they are.

And this is something that touches across most areas of life, if not all. When you’re in relationships, when you’re with friends, even with families. You deserve to be respected. Your privacy, your properties, your secrets… You don’t have to ask for such things, you don’t have to beg for them. Because once you ask, you can never know for sure if they’re doing it just because you asked or simply because it’s what they wanna do.

There might be cases where people have to be taught respect, but this is because they don’t know better. When you go to the court, you’re warned to act according to the rules of the court and respect the judge, or you’ll be done for. Many lawyers go out of their way to sound this warning because even the tiniest whiff of disrespect could land them in jail for contempt.

Also, another case could be with kids. You have to teach kids how to respect people. You teach them to respect people’s privacy, how to call their seniors respectfully, and also how to greet properly. Only kids deserve this. But once you become an adult, you’re supposed to know better. You’re supposed to be better. And for many, I’m sure that people don’t even want anything to do with disrespectful folks. They know that it’ll only be a matter of time, and thus they’re not all that worried.

This is because if you’re not careful, they’ll embarrass you and shame you in public. The respect that you get from everyone else will be lost just because of a few disrespectful souls. This is why disrespect should be squashed like a bug and never allowed to fester. Don’t let it linger or go untreated, because it will only get worse, and by the time you’re ready to act, it might be too late.
