On a High Note...
So, it’s not been an easy couple of days. However, the week ended on a pretty high note, one that I’ve not gotten to experience since I came back. And I’m not talking about work or the like, I’m actually talking about rain!
Towards the end of last week, we could feel the chill in the air. Even when the sun shone down mercilessly on Earth, we could still tell that the weather was changing. At night, we got stronger winds, and sleeping wasn’t as hot as it would have been during any other period. Sometimes during the course of the day, we could guess that it was raining somewhere else, but just missing our area for some reason.
Anyway, on Saturday, we ended up having our day. Right from morning, we could tell that it was going to rain. There was no morning sun, it was all dark and gloomy. The sun refused to come out and it was a clear sign that it was going to rain very soon. However, that could not stop life from happening, people were still going about their businesses.
The thing was, the rain seemed to be progressing slowly. One step at a time. In the morning, it started with the gloomy clouds and the absence of the sun. And then by noon, we got the chill. It came with sporadic short winds, and this told us that it was going to rain heavily, and I didn’t want to be out when it did. However, I couldn’t shake the feeling that all this shakara was only going to end up being a fluke by being nothing but a light drizzle.
However, it seemed to be taking it’s sweet time. It went on and pretty soon, the winds kicked up and became heavier. This time, the light drizzles began. The winds was strong enough to mess with curtains and if they were not properly nailed to the wall, they would have been ripped off at once. That was how strong it was. Letting such winds blow into your home is always fun!
The rain didn’t start fully until sometime around 5 PM that evening, and when it started, it was like war. It fell heavily and for a long time, beating down on the world like it was pissed off at us for everything we’ve been doing to Mother Earth. The heavy rain went on for well over two hours, water had pooled all over the compound because it couldn’t be drained out fast enough.
And then, even when it finally ended, it still didn’t end. I had to step out sometime around 8 PM to go get fuel, and it was drizzling. Not the light kind, the heavy kind of drizzle that could soak your clothes if you stayed in it long enough. It was the kind of rain one got after a particularly heavy one, and one thing about them was that they fell for long periods of time. I knew then that it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon.
Going to buy fuel, and the road was clean and neat, even though it was wet. If it had been back in my school, I would have had to wade through flood and whatnots. As I made a number of posts with regard to that fact, I’m sure you know now how relieved I am to be in a better area that is not flood-prone, and I don’t have to wait 30 minutes to one hour before I can step out again after a rainfall.
Anyway… it was a good day. It reminded me of the not-so-distant past, and I’m glad that it’s all there now; the past. So, when it rains, no matter how heavy, I don’t really care anymore. The road is just gonna get wet, that’s all.
