No Need To Be Humble Here!!!

Sometimes, you have to wonder about the things that go through the minds of people. Because if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s the fact that people can be extremely selfish, and if something is not going their way, then it’s wrong. They’re the kind of people who choose the “my way of the highway” kind of mentality. And being paired with such people on any project would be nothing but exhausting.

Such people believe themselves to be leaders, but they don’t do a lot of leading. They’re only just barking orders at their peers, then they get pissed off when no one follows. They’re the kind who can guilt someone or use emotional blackmail to get what they want out of you.

Sadly, such wickedness can be hidden under familiar feelings like love and friendship. But every once in a while, their true self will always show themselves. Because when you try to break away from them, when you try to go after your own and do yours, they won’t let you have it easily. They’d do everything within their power to keep you in that same position, especially if the new path could mean you get to become better than them.

Many people have experiences with friends who would discourage them from taking certain actions, paint the action as horrible and dangerous. Some will even ghost you or be mad at you because you refused to heed their advice. But later on, you’d find out that the very thing they told you not to do, they were also doing it. As a matter of fact, they were discouraging you from doing it simply because they wanted to increase their chances of it. That’s how bad it can be.

And for this reason, I’ve never understood the need to be ‘humble’ or make oneself small just to please someone else. I don’t get how people will leave things that are going well for them, the dreams, potential, and hope that they had, and just willingly place themselves into a small box, all because of one person’s feelings. And the hope that the person would remain that way.

But life can be cruel in the worst ways imaginable. Just because someone tells you to shrink so they can stand tall doesn’t mean that they’d be willing to pull you up with them. Because eventually, you’ll shrink low enough that you’ll be nothing but a footstool, giving them more leverage and access to those they would otherwise have never met. By then, it’s usually too late for many people.

It’s sad that people choose to bring others down instead of stepping up their game to match their energy. And this also happens a lot in relationships. People always feel the need to ‘change’ their partners. You meet a girl who’s business-oriented and loves making money; that’s what attracts you to her because you believe she’s good with money. But once the relationship starts, you suddenly want her to stop her business and stay at home because ‘she can’t be making more money than me’.

What about dating a guy who’s a content creator and feeling insecure because the majority of his followers are females, so you want him to quit the job just to feel better? As in, if you don’t trust him to be faithful, why are you even with him to begin with?

Omo… There is just so much rubbish that people are made to swallow all in the name of relationships, friendships, and even family. I’ve heard a story of a lastborn being told he shouldn’t buy a car because none of his elder siblings had bought one yet, and it would look bad on them. What about the story of a lady who wanted a big wedding which she and her partner could afford, but her own family were against the idea because her elder sisters were yet to get married and even had kids out of wedlock.

In these scenarios, it’s always as if you’re having to pay for the sins of others. You have to bear the consequences of others' shortcomings, and they expect you to always take it with a smiling face. So then ask yourself, if the roles were reversed and they were in your shoes, would they also be willing to dim their lights to let you shine? Will they be willing to stoop so you can stand tall? Will they be willing to be humble so you can be proud?

We all know the answers to that. In the end, everyone is only after their own needs. There is enough space and light for everyone to shine, but no. Some people prefer to be the only candle in the dark, because that’s when they’d stand out the most. However, they don’t know that ten candles in a room will always be better than one candle in the same room.

It’s a crazy world!!!
