Lies Are Taboo!
Sometimes, I’m always surprised by the level that certain people are willing to go just to cover their lies. As in, why get involved in something when you know that you’ll always have to lie to keep it going? And these are not simple lies; they are lies that destroy relationships and even shatter trust. Those kinds of lies that once you figure them out, you can’t ever imagine yourself seeing them the same way again.
People tell such lies all the time, and usually for the dumbest reasons. They tell it for frivolities and for short-term pleasures. Yet, the effects is always more damning because such things can’t just be overlooked. This isn’t just your regular white lie. It’s a lie deliberately crafted to deceive and to take advantage of.
Sometimes, you can’t help but wonder if people who tell lies even consider those they’re lying to. There are some lies that are so foolish, it’ll be as if the person they’re telling them to is an idiot. And they just won’t see anything wrong, because without proof, it’ll simply look like you’re antagonizing them. And as the good person that you are, you won’t want to seem like you’re nagging.
People have cursed their families, claimed their parents have been in gruesome accidents, told all kinds of lies about their spouses and kids, all because they want something. And when it all blows open, they start acting weird, as if they didn’t know that their actions would have severe consequences. If not treated correctly, such lies can really destroy someone’s mental health.
Why am I saying all this? I just heard a story of someone who was lied to by her fiancé. It turns out that during their talking stage, she had made it clear that there are certain things she won’t be up for; such as dating married men and also single fathers. Those were her choices, and she had her reasons for them. However, this man told her that he was neither married nor a father.
You see, during the course of their relationship, she noticed there was a little girl he posted from time to time on his stories. The first time she asked him about her, he said that she was his daughter. His reply had been offhand, as if he didn’t really think about it. It was when the words were out of his mouth that he realized he had messed up. He immediately began to laugh, trying to pass it off as a joke. He claimed he only wanted to get a rise out of her. The little girl wasn’t his daughter; she was just someone he ‘saw’ as his daughter.
For the sake of love, the lady let it go. However, everything blew up eventually. I don’t know how she found out, but she discovered that indeed, the little girl was his daughter, and he was still very much in contact with his baby mama. While he wasn’t married yet, he had been two-timing both women. Since she found out, she has been unable to think straight. She couldn’t believe he had gotten away with it for so long.
But then, that’s what lies do to you. They make you feel stupid and dumb, whereas it’s not your fault for trusting the wrong person. It’s not your fault for believing the best of someone you’re in love with. It’s also not your fault that they took advantage of your love. But then, the ball would always be in your court after the fact. You get to decide if you’ll remain there or if you’ll get out.
Listening to the story just got me annoyed, because the man in question was someone I know and respected, even though it’s from a distance. Although I’ve not heard his own side of his story, if there’s really a child involved, and he really did cheat on his fiancée, then it’s a big letdown.
But then, that’s life. We pour our hearts and minds into relationships, and people just mess things up. It’s scary, but it doesn’t mean that we won’t give love another try, does it? Because heartbreak or not, life goes on. Truth or lies, you have to continue living. And the best payback you can give to those who hurt you is to show that you’re thriving and growing well without them.
Yeah… I said it!
