Learning something new after a long time of not learning, can be quite the experience. If you’ve been too busy simply getting by with the little knowledge that you had acquired and you were unable to expand on the knowledge in any way, when you’re finally able to learn something new, it would take some time to get your brain back to the point where it would be capable of soaking in new data.

Unfortunately, learning is not like riding a bike. When you’ve not done that for a while, you’ll need to reorient yourself. But once that stage is passed, you’ll find it easier for all the data you’re after to sink into your brain and stay there.

This was something I experienced a lot back when I was still in school. During the holidays, I always utilized it to the best of my ability. I was never the kind of student who tried to read and study during the holidays. Never! I left all matters that concerned the school back in the school. So, I either worked or simply just relaxed as I waited for the holidays to be over so we could return to school.

But then, I noticed that when we returned to school, things were always off. My brain which was always active and ready to learn was usually distracted within that first week of resumption. When listening to the lecturers, my mind will keep drifting away. I’ll find myself daydreaming, escaping deep into my mind instead of focusing on the class that I was having.

It also affected my assignments. I postponed doing them and even when I did them, I had to give it extra tries just to get it right. Simply because my mind was just not in the game yet. During that period, I know better than to try forcing myself. Because as long as I keep trying to learn, my brain will adapt once more.

Thankfully, those periods never lasted. Sometimes, by the end of the first week or the beginning of the second week of resumption, I’ll be back in full force, ready to tackle my education. By then, I’ll be following the lecturers band for band, and everything will be sinking in like a stone thrown into the lake. It became a bit simpler for me, running assignments and preparing for tests, was also easy.

The energy always stayed up until examination time, and by then, I was always piqued. It helps me to face the exams and handle the stress of reading so much and having to remember it all. But then, once the exam is over, we go on holidays, where I would spend 2-3 weeks at home doing nothing but working and resting. And by the time the next semester resumes, it will be the same issue.

But I’m not complaining! It has always worked for me. I graduated from school last year and since then, I’ve not learned anything new because I simply wanted my brain to take a break from learning. However, that break has ended and now, it’s time for me to start learning again. But this thing of mine is making it a bit hard. I guess I have to get back into the groove of actually learning once more, and get my brain to be sharp once more. I’m sure that within the next day or two, I’ll be ready to deliver and when that happens, nothing will be able to stop me from this path that I’ve chosen.

It’s gonna be a great experience!

Our brains resist to learn something new at the beginning and I think it's because of our lazy mind. But with time we start to accept that we need to learn and focus on it and naturally it becomes easier with time.

Yeah... it's never easy at first, but then, our brain eventually gets into the right frame and it's all uphill from there!

I can relate to that and almost every student feels like that at least once in a while. Learning sometimes can be challenging so when we have the opportunity to do away with it even just for a few days, we don't hesitate to take that break.

The most important thing is getting back on track immediately after the break...

Omo... I take my holidays seriously ooo! I would never do anything that has to do with school during holidays. Reading? Never! When school resumes, I'll resume reading. That was always my way, and it worked for me.

I can totally relate to this kind of learning experience. It takes a little time for the brain to adjust and start accepting new data after being on sabbatical leave😃

Hopefully in few days time, you will start to deliver..I trust ur brain to comply
