Is This Climate Change?

I don’t know about other parts of Nigeria, but this past weekend has been one of the coldest and chilliest that I’ve experienced since the start of this year. I’ve made posts already complaining about the hot weather and how it was all but unbearable due to the intense heat that comes at night. And then, with epileptic power and the high cost of fuel, it’s a bit hard to get a good night’s sleep.

That is how it was for us for many days, stretching even into weeks, but so far, it’s beginning to look like it’s all coming to an end. Maybe we’ve finally seen the light at the end of this hot sweltering tunnel. And then, I’m not saying this because the light situation has somewhat improved, we seem to be getting more power at night now, so it’s no longer as bad as it used to be. I’m saying it because things have changed drastically.

It started raining on Friday, and it wasn’t just an ordinary one, it was quite heavy I must say. The kind of rain that comes with lots of wind and makes everywhere chilly. The kind that when you open up your windows to let the air in, anything that’s not pinned down will be blown away. Yeah, that was the kind of rain that fell.

However, it didn’t fall for long. Not more than fifteen minutes, but it was enough. The rest of the day was cool and sweet. The air was fresh and it was as if the rain had washed the stench of sweat and heat from the atmosphere. It was good, but that wasn’t even the end. It turned out that there was still more to come! And it came later that night.

The rain returned that night with a vengeance, falling for well over an hour. By the time we woke up the next morning (Saturday), everywhere was wet and there were puddles of water all over the place. This was good because it meant that we woke up to a cool morning. Even the sun that shone that morning couldn’t take away the chill in the air. Still, it was only going to get worse.

On Saturday evening, that was when the worst one came. This one came with severe thunderstorms, the kind that made buildings tremble. When the lightning struck, it was as if the house was on fire for seconds at a time. While the rain this time wasn’t heavy, it was all those deceptive kinds of rain that trick you into thinking they’re not heavy, but once you enter them, you’ll be drenched within seconds! It also came with lots of winds, making for a chilly night.

The rain fell long into the night. I don’t even know when it stopped because I went to bed while it was still raining. So when Sunday morning came and we went to church, it was without the customary harsh sun beating down on us. Even this morning is not too hot, although I’m sure that by noon the story will change.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news. The lightning and thunder affected some electric poles and transformers in my area, and for that, some people had light issues. I’m not one of them though, our light was just perfect.

There’s something weird going on with our climate. Nothing is as it is anymore. Harmattan has basically disappeared from the schedule, rain is now coming earlier than expected and the heat is just pure punishment. Could this be the effect of global warming and climate change? Would we see more of this rain or less? What about the heat? Is that going to come back?

I just don’t know what to do.

It's happening all across the world now. I remember going to play cricket and football in sun during summer about a decade ago. Now just going out into the sunlight stings. The temp reaches 36C in the morning itself to harsh. And when it comes to the rain, we had 3 floods back to back. Not a pretty sight.
I think we are too late to do anything about this climate change. :-\

As in ehn... during my school days, I could walk long distances without feeling tired. These days, just a few minutes and It would be as if all the water has been sucked from my body. It's just too bad.

Exactly, people are literally died because of exposure to exterme heat during summer.

😔

Dont know where the world is heading.

The rainy season is setting in, when the sun scourges on us too much we always pray for the rain. We also hope this year's rain doesn't overflow and damage properties.

Yeah... that's the issue. the rain could come and then start destroying everything. Some days are like that.😂

Climatic conditions are changing all over the world, some places have really crazy weather, here where I live in Brazil, in the center-west region for example, there are days when it's sunny, then it rains, then it's sunny and then it rains again at the end of the day, it's really crazy, but I think it's even natural here, of course in other places, it's really changes, caused by pollution or human action.

Yeah... I feel that the changes we're experiencing in the weather have been a long time coming. Our attitudes and activities are what brought this upon us. And at this point, it's probably too late to do anything about it.

It really is something that has been going on for many years and there doesn't seem to be a simple solution. The best solution would be to change people's consciousness, which in itself makes things very complicated.

Climate change is clearly noticed as the difference is significant in recent days. I think in the future I think there will be no timeframe for the season.
