Everyone Is Just Tired...😒😓

It’s been a lazy couple of weeks so far in my school. And I have to say, for the first time since I got admission to ND1, students have shown an obvious lack of interest in coming back to school. And those that even returned just stayed in their hostels and refused to go to lectures.

And this is everyone, not just a select few. Normally, the good students would have long resumed by now and would have been pestering the lecturers to come to class, those interested in becoming course representatives would have started their lobbying so they could clinch it. By now, the group chat would have been flooded with more assignments than one person could answer.

But somehow, for some reason, no one cares anymore. I can feel the tiredness in the air and frustration, everything is seeping the life and joy out of people and if we’re being honest, going to school to learn calculus is the least of our worries.

How did we get here though? Is it because of how the last semester ended? Do you remember I told you about how our Rector kept postponing our exams just to enable more students to pay their school fees? Could that be the reason? Maybe that just showed students that in the end, all that mattered was money! Maybe truly, the education system does not care about us but the money we funnel into it regularly.

It can be frustrating to struggle to attend lectures, do assignments and tests, pay for textbooks, and all other stress that comes with being a student. And then, you’ll end up being held back from your exams because you were unable to pay school fees. This is a recent development that is not in the favor of students at all. Previously, you were allowed to write your exams, but after your degree, your certificate was held back from you unless you cleared every single debt.

This was better, even though the pile-up would be hefty, but it’ll be at a better time that the student can pay it. Not now. With everything going on in the country, people have barely eaten but have managed to send themselves to school. And then, school fees will stand between them and success.

IMG_20230531_015107.jpg

But then, maybe all this has nothing to do with the school itself but the country at large. I don’t know about others, but the cost of living has gone to an all-time high. People are literally starving day to day out here. Everyone needs more money, jobs are not coming in. So, the little people have, they hold onto it with vengeance! People are working multiple jobs just to meet up with the rising cost of living, and still, it looks like it’s making no difference.

It’s so easy to get tired as a result of all this. Why won’t you? I can assure you that school is the last thing on the mind of a hungry man. I don’t know about you all, but school will bleed you out mentally, financially, and in any other way it possibly can. The funny thing is, you can’t avoid it. You’ll pay! And pay! And pay!! Until you leave the school for good!!

I guess everyone has come to this decision and has chosen to just go after the money for now. They’re trying to push back their personal resumption as far as they can before they absolutely want to. They want to gather as much money as they can to ease their return.

When you walk through the school right now, it would feel like exams are just over and we’re about to go on holiday. And this has nothing to do with the current 2-day warning strike action because like I said, it’s been on for a few weeks.

2dk2RRM2dZ8gKjXsrozapsD83FxL3Xbyyi5LFttAhrXxr16mCe4arfLHA37mQtCuynkak9C9VAxm3nacdB7gLmLiZLuYVhHeNsRgxL6WKJoam3hs2B7ZLAp2jwaLFEwoAbLKzAfpv2DhtyvHbJunTbU58RMbxtkvefNK4qj8EA.png

When you walk through the school, you’ll find only a few people on the road and most of the classes are either locked or empty. Many departments have not even gotten their course allocation for the semester so they have no idea who their lecturers are yet.

I don’t know, man. Scary times lay ahead. This is not like the “school na scam” era, this is very different. People just don’t care anymore and it’s evident.

I don’t know if this is only in my school or it’s all over the country, but it scares me to think of what this could mean in the long run. For me, I just want to finish my schooling and get the hell out of here. Let me know that this phase of my life is behind me. But then, with the steady decline we’ve been seeing in recent months, things might get even worse.

Well, what else can I say? We move! I’ll resume school next week, and hopefully, everyone else will resume as well. Let’s get this show on the road and get it done with. Because if there’s one thing I know, life goes on. The system does what it wants and doesn’t care about us. But regardless, we keep striving.

We keep on trying our best to turn up, no matter what. Because that is what life is all about.

It is not certain why students are staying back but everything happening in the country is enough to make people stay back.

I read about the exam issue back then when you shared the situation in a post and it opened my eyes to the fact they that the education sector and government in general don't care about the students. School has completely become a source of revenue rather than a place where students should be impacted and given the hope of a better future.

No one cares anymore joor. Education is now for those who can afford it, if you can't just stay at home and look for something else to do. Very depressing.

Really, the whole thing is alarming and frustrating. Our school leaders and even the government have forgotten the main reason why we need schooling and now they are more focused on how to make themselves rich so the poor will keep working for them.

This is a trying time for our country and we just have to keep striving like you've said if not in the end we all will suffer the consequences of our actions. We know how important education is and seeing how schools take it now, if you ask me I think the best way now is self education but that is not easy at all.

Well, that's why the two should go hand in hand to make it work fine. We should just go to school for going sake but then the learning is done by us at home.

I pray God help us not to give up but keep striving, as they say, e go better!

Yeah... if we believe it's gonna get better, then we'll keep trying our best. Because already we've come too far to give up and there's still a long way for us to go.
It'll all be fine, I'm sure of it.

I'd like to think that this whole thing about students being nonchalant is everywhere, and I think it's not our fault. The pressure is too much, to be very honest. It's hard to live in Nigeria, let alone live and study.

I got very tired of everything concerning academics when I got into my final year. And then I didn't care anymore.

When one thinks of all the hardship one would face even after attending school, after all the stress, one may just feel so unenthusiastic about the whole scheme.

I wish you all the very best as you resume, man.

Like... you begin to question yourself if it's all worth it. Getting into the school is a struggle, schooling itself is a struggle, now using the certificate will also be a struggle. Does this ever end?
My brain won blow!!!

It is really hurtful and panicked when our education system is just a money factory and not paying attention towards Quality and demand of modern education. Students should show unity to make this system better instead of lobbying for money hacks. I hope your empty classes will be filled with students and your strikes will bring fruits in the form of resuming of classes. Be patient, you need to discourage all factors whose priority is money.

There is no doubt that the system cares less about the students, citizens or even everyone. Every man for himself so we gotta keep our heads up!

The education system in my country is also destroyed, It has become a business, they just care about making money and believe me it really hurts. I have seen people selling their gold and other things just to pay the fee of their kids.

You'll sell everything you have for education, yet it still won't be enough. Things just keep getting worse.

What to say🥺? I am also facing the same situation. Lecturer don't keep their word. After Going to university when I hear all the class cancelled I feel heartbroken because going and returning time cost me most of the time of day. So, most of us don't go to university when single class occurs. I want to discuss less about the topic with anyone because It's irritating topic for me.

Omg...this isn't good lord!!
Imagine those days during my Nd Program, once is 7:00am students are already trooping in pairs to class. Me that's living quite close to school wakes up 6:00 and gets to school 7:30 and upon arrival almost 40 students are taking their positions.

So what if I go back for my HND program??

Will this be the situation, I will face?

What's happening now in the educational sector?...should I now believe school is a scam cause it drains you and drains you, and at last no job to show forth..?

These are my thoughts freely roaming my mind cause the form is out but I am having doubts and feeling extremely reluctant with the fate of the judiciary and the rest of whatever is happening... I think I should just go to school and be done with it. I am not living for my country, I am living for the betterment of my life and my world then the universe. What else?

Yikes!!!

Now my question in my subtle mind is should I proceed with this program or should I not?...I will get my answers on a due time for now let my mind wallow in the stream of thoughts. I'm almost fed up with everything.
