It’s the third day of the year, and already, it feels like the year is moving quite fast. We’re off to a great start, and although I’m yet to fully resume work, it’s only a matter of time. I’m still very much in my holiday mood. So, for now, I’m just chilling at home, eating and watching TV shows and movies. At other times, I go out to visit friends or family. But in general, I’m staying away from any major outings.

I took some last-minute trips during the few days before Christmas, and the traffic made me regret it deeply. Now, any form of outing that would require me to use public transport or even an Uber is just dismissed. Until the work season resumes fully once more, it will just be home, friends, and family for me. No cap.

But then, on today’s topic, I did take some risks last year. Like I took major risks last year, but for me, one of them took the crown. Close to the midpoint of the year, one of my major clients reached out to me, saying that they wanted to make a switch, they could no longer afford a scriptwriter, and wanted to use more AI to prepare their scripts. And thus, if I chose to stay with them, my pay would be cut drastically, seeing how I would be using AI.

I just couldn’t, not with the new pay and with the AI, so I had to let her go. I stopped working with them. But sadly, the AI bug had spread so fast, and many people were seeing it as a cheaper source, they were all demanding the same thing. I was only going to be working for a fraction of what I used to earn, but meanwhile, I’d be working with AI while also basically rewriting everything AI produced to humanize it. Somehow, I was even doing more work.

So, I just left the field altogether. That was a big risk for me, choosing to leave when I had nothing else besides Hive to fall back on. I fell broke not too long after I ran through my savings. It was then that I realized that besides my writing and my degree, I didn’t have any other soft skills. I could do just about anything that was related to writing and storytelling, but that was it. I had no skill in tech.

So, I decided to enroll in an online school and started learning data analysis. I’m still learning it though, I should be done within the next few months. And still, during that free time, I was able to make up my mind about content creation, and I embraced it fully, telling my own stories across my Web2 platforms. And just like that, I became a video editor as well. It took me a while to master the use of the Capcut software, but now, I’ve gotten so good at it that I can take a job to run video editing for anyone. That’s part of what I’ve been using to guide while I run my program. It was quite helpful during this period of Hive’s dip.

So, the risk paid off big time for me. I started a new course that I’ll finish soon, I started content creation that has led me to have over 3k followers across all my platforms, I’ve learned video editing, and even better, I’ve mastered screenwriting. I’m working on a movie script currently as I write this.

Would I have been able to do all this if I didn’t just say no? I doubt it, because I would have been comfortable or at least too busy to try again. And now, I’m doing so much and exploring skills I didn’t even know that I had. Thankfully, I took a risk, and it paid off. If I find myself in that position again, will I take the same risk? Yeah, I will. I most definitely will.

Well, I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.

Lol... my own enjoyment happened in my home. I'm taking all the rest I can get because I know that once this period is over, stress will take over.

Wow, this is really nice. From what was supposed to be a troubling period to a major opportunity. Indeed, sometimes we need to say “no” and take that risk in the right direction.

AI indeed replacing us in many work. We can't deny it and I don't blame to for leaving the career as I think you have taken the right decision. I believe that the new skills you are learning will pay off well in the upcoming days.
