Beyond A Number!

Marriage has to be one of the hottest topics that people talk about in recent times. Seeing how it’s an innate part of our cultures and traditions, it’s no news that everywhere you go, there are slightly different views on what marriage should or shouldn’t be like. And many times, when people come from different demographics, there usually tends to be a sort of clash between the two ideologies.

In the topic of marriage alone, there’s usually something or the other to talk about. From age differences to maturity, and a host of other things. With the passage of time, so much has happened, and people have either gotten wiser or smarter. Now, people are asking important questions about marriage and are also ready to take steps that in the past would never have been considered.

And for today’s topic, the idea is a very important one. Age might just be a number, but oftentimes, there is just a certain level of maturity that is expected from a person when they get to a certain age. There are some things you feel you’d be able to talk to them about and have a rewarding conversation without it feeling one-sided at all.

And should there be a cap on the range that a person marries? Should we only marry people in our age bracket? This means marrying people that are only either within tens years older or ten years younger – as long as they’re of legal age. This makes it all a bit shaky, because we all know that age is never a confirmation of maturity. Just because someone is older doesn’t make them wiser or smarter. And then, someone might be intelligent even at a young age, and smart even, and that might lead to a more mature persona.

Seeing as marriage is a lifetime deal, one has to be very careful who they get to spend it with, and age shouldn’t be a factor. We’ve seen twenty-year-olds get married to sixty-year-olds, and this has happened on both sides of the divide. Every few months, we hear about people getting married to those who are old enough to be their parents, and the marriage is usually solid. It doesn’t always end in pain and regret.

I’m not here to say that there has to be a disparity in age when it comes to marriages, but I’m saying that age is not that big of a deal that we make it out to be. As long as both parties involved are ready for it and they know what they’re getting into, then it’s all good and fine. You might wonder what a twenty-two-year-old might have to be able to bond deeply with a forty-four-year-old, and believe me, I’m also wondering that as well.

In the end, what matters the most is the connection that we get from the relationship. Do we really feel the bond? Do we connect to them on a deep level? Can we hold deep conversations with them without having it turn into something frustrating? Because you’d be shocked at people who are always frustrated when they have conversations with their partners. With certain jokes you can’t make, certain topics you can talk about just because of one thing or the other.

Well, it is what it is. However, it all goes, it’s still gonna be the same thing. Humans will always end up doing what they want. And as it stands, they’ll keep getting married to whomever they want. Age will continue to be just a number for us all.
