Prehistoric Collectible - Hangemachtes Fossil

Zum Hintergrund:

Ein guter Freund hatte am Wochenende Geburtstag.Auf der suche nach einem geeigneten Geschenk, kam mir die Idee ihn mit etwas selbstgemachten zu überraschen.
Da er schon seit einiger Zeit Fossilien, Steine und Mineralien sammelt und sich sehr für diese begeistern kann, war es naheliegend ihn etwas in dieser Richtung zu schenken.

Nachdem ich das Internet also nach Fossilien durchforstet habe, kam mir der Gedanke das es doch gar nicht so schwer sein dürfte selber so ein Fossil aus Ton nachzumachen.

Natürlich ist es nicht dasselbe wie ein echtes Fossil, aber dafür steckt mehr Arbeit drin als es einfach nur online zu bestellen.

Gesagt getan...ich habe mir ein Bilderrahmen und zwei Packungen Modeliermasse gekauft und einfach mal drauflos gearbeitet.

Ich habe schon etwas Erfahrung mit Ton und meine Frau hat mir vor kurzem ein Modelierset geschenkt. Trotzdem wusste ich natürlich nicht, ob am Ende wirklich was vorzeigbares bei herauskommt.



Background:

A good friend of mine had his birthday over the weekend, and while searching for a suitable gift, I had the idea to surprise him with something homemade. Since he has been collecting fossils, rocks, and minerals for some time and is very passionate about them, it seemed obvious to give him something in that direction.

After scouring the internet for fossils, the thought occurred to me that it shouldn't be too difficult to make a fossil out of clay myself.

Of course, it's not the same as a real fossil, but it involves more effort than simply ordering one online.

So, I went ahead and bought a picture frame and two packs of modeling clay and just started working on it.

I already have some experience with clay, and my wife recently gave me a modeling kit. Nevertheless, I naturally didn't know if I would end up with something presentable in the end.

Als Vorlage für dieses Projekt habe ich im Internet ein tolles Fossil eines Meereskrokodils gefunden.
As a template for this project, I found a fantastic fossil of a marine crocodile on the internet.

Leider habe ich meine Arbeit nicht von Beginn an festgehalten, aber ich fasse mal kurz zusammen was ich gemacht habe:

  1. Ton flach ausgerollt und an die größe der Bilderrahmen Rückwand zugeschnitten.

  2. Anschließend habe ich diesen texturiert

  3. Das Skelett habe ich nur grob vorgeformt und dan mithilfe von Wasser auf den zuvor getätigten Hintergrund geklebt

  4. Im letzten Schritt habe ich das Skelett weiter ausgearbeitet. Ich habe mich dabei auf einzelne Knochen sowie kleine Details konzentriert.

Unfortunately, I didn't document my work from the beginning, but I'll briefly summarize what I did:

  1. I rolled out the clay and cut it to the size of the picture frame backing.

  2. It seems that I textured this.

  3. I roughly shaped the skeleton and then adhered it to the previously prepared background using water.

  4. In the final step, I further refined the skeleton, focusing on individual bones and small details.

Da es sich um Luft trocknende Modeliermasse handelt, hieß es für mich jetzt abwarten ...zwei Tage hat das aushärten gedauert und anschließend konnte ich mich ans bemalen machen.
Translation: Since it's air-drying modeling clay, it meant waiting for me. It took two days to fully cure, and after that, I could start painting.

Zuerst wollte ich die Farben natürlich halten. Der Hintergrund sollte in der Tonfarbe bleiben und für das Fossil habe ich einen warmen Braunton zusammengerührt. Leider habe ich beim bemalen schlampig gearbeitet und habe mich deshalb dan für ein anderes Farbschema entschieden.
At first, I wanted to keep the colors natural. The background should remain in the clay color, and I mixed a warm brown shade for the fossil. Unfortunately, I was sloppy while painting, so I decided to go for a different color scheme.

Am Ende war ich mit meiner Extravaganten Farbwahl doch ganz zufrieden und mein Kumpel hat sich auch sehr gefreut! 👍
Translation: In the end, I was quite satisfied with my extravagant color choice, and my friend was also very pleased! 👍

Dieses Projekt hat etwa 3-4 std gedauert und war eine tolle Erfahrung. Es hat sich definitiv gelohnt mal was neues auszuprobieren den ich habe eine Menge gelernt und außerdem hat es auch echt Spaß gemacht mit Ton zu Arbeiten.

Probiere es gerne auch mal aus. Es ist nicht so schwer wie es vielleicht aussieht!

This project took about 3-4 hours and was a great experience. It was definitely worth trying something new because I learned a lot, and besides, it was really fun to work with clay.

Ist richtig gut geworden. 🎉 Respekt, ich weiss nicht ob ich Geduld dafür hätte. Doch sicherlich ist es auch irgendwie meditativ und wirkt entspannend.

Wirst du sowas nun öfter auch mal machen?
