Splinterlands Dream Team
Greetings, battle mages!
It's been an interesting month in the world of Splinterlands! The price of $SPS has been slowly increasing, the new Conclave set packs can be purchased, and the battles have been fierce.
Even though I still suck in Guild Brawls, the Modern League battles have gone pretty ok although they are getting much tougher as well. I'm guessing that there's this newfound interest in Splinterlands emerging again, and old accounts are waking up...
Therefore, we must stay ahead of the game and constantly upgrade our decks and develop new strategies. Not long ago, I wrote this article about Olivia of The Brook and my favourite line-up. This post is sort of a follow-up to that, as I've come up with even deadlier variations of that team and have been upgrading some of the key cards as well. Let's have a look!
Dream Team
Without further ado, here's one of the most common variations of my dream team:
This particular match could be considered a low-mana battle with a mana cap of 28. My idea here is to keep the middle, or core team, unchanged. This includes Nimbledook Explorer, Aves Sturgis, Helmet Kharafax, and Olivia of The Brook. I keep changing the tank unit and last position monster, and choose the right ones for those spots, depending on the mana-cap.
The Core
Even though Olivia is part of the core team nowadays, the original core was made of these three guys who support each other on the battlefield.
The play is simple: Aves teaches magic attacks to the two adjacent, passive units, using its Weapons Training ability. Nimbledook Explorer then provides armour to friendly units with Protect.
The key idea here is to keep Helmet Kharafax alive as long as possible os he can mature and take full advantage of his Bloodlust and Scavenger abilities.
The Trap
As I mentioned, Olivia of The Brook was already well introduced in my previous post, but since then, I managed to upgrade her to level 3. This adds one extra armour in addition to those provided by The Explorer.
Just like Helmet Kharafax, Olivia is a unit that needs time to develop as her Mimic ability "steals" abilities from opponent monsters once in every round. So, to "protect" her, I've added the expandable Venari Marksrat next to her. When the Marksrat dies, its Martyr ability will trigger and boost Olivia's other stats by one each.
The Marksrat will be luring opponents Sneak & Opportunity monster to attack him, buying valuable time for our more important units. So once they get through his armour and the rat is gone, my opponents may find that the double-striking Olivia has become too strong at that point.

The Tank
Perhaps the most interesting part of the line-up for this battle is the tank unit. Halfling Refugee is a 1 mana unit, which makes it a perfect choice for lower battles, as it frees mana space for more expensive monsters.
That being said, Halfling might be a tougher nut to crack than his mana cost might suggest. First of all, he has 6 health points (and an armour from The Explorer). Secondly, after a long wait, I finally managed to upgrade this one to level 3, which means the Heal ability is now unlocked.
Because of the negative Weary ability, Halfling Refugee will get exhausted at some point, but until then, when he attacks, he delivers a good melee punch.
Speaking of melee attacks, if the Halfling is destroyed, the Explorer will be able to perform both magic and melee attacks from the first spot using his Armoured Strike ability. See, I've thought of everything, or have I? Let's find out!
The Battle
As you can see in the picture below, we are up against a very tough opponent, even though their name is Easilykilled. Still, the longer it goes on, the better our chances are...
You can watch the whole battle HERE or/and continue reading my battle report below:
ROUND 1
I just noticed that their team has 3 poison units, and indeed, poison did some damage to our team, but fortunately, the only casualty was the Marksrat, which was kinda planned to begin with.
ROUND 2
In the second one we managed to take out two of the front units, which led to their Deeplurker moving in front and giving Olivia some room to breathe as it was clearly harassing her.
ROUND 3
Olivia was still a target, but she managed to steal a Camouflage ability, forcing enemy units to attack now much stronger Kharafx.
ROUND 4
In the fourth, it looked very nice for us as they were down to two monsters and our Explorer was still in full health & armoured. Behind him was lurking the dangerous Helmet Kharafax with 11 health points and a strong magic attack power.
ROUND 5
In this final round, we really didn't give any chance to opponent units, our defence held, and their quickly perished under our magic fire. The game was over.
Conclusion
The really fun aspect of Splinterlands is to develop these killer teams for different splinters and create new variations for different mana ranges. For example, HERE, I have another variation of the same core team boosted with a stronger tank unit and Helios Matriarch as a summoner to give some speed for this a bit higher mana battle.
This has also been working well for me as The Explorer provides armour to my team, so I don't really need a summoner to do that. Also, by using a dragon summoner, I can add some powerful high-mana monsters if needed.
That's about it, can't wait for what the new Conclave set will add to my strategies! Thank you for reading, and let me know your thoughts and favourite line-up!
