Short of Capital? These 3 Free Testnets Have Huge Potential

GreenerCandlesCryptoMarketAnalysis (1).jpg

Time and money are the two ingredients needed for successful airdrop farming. If you have enough capital to allocate to upcoming crypto projects, time isn't needed, as you can make your farming a very passive activity. However, for smaller fish that don't have extra stablecoins lying around, knowing how to spend time wisely becomes essential.

Still, every testnet, every airdrop is like a shot in the dark. Even with a large percentage of tokens allocated in TGE or a massive amount of funding, nothing is guaranteed until the tokens are safely in our wallets and can be traded.

That being said, testnets are a very good and safe way of getting familiar with the web3 world and earning some tokens. Since we only have 24 hours in a day and probably even less to spend with testnets, it becomes crucial to know which ones might be worth our time.

In this free testnet special blog post, I'm sharing the ones I'm currently farming and trying to explain my reasons for choosing these particular ones. Let's take a look!

Zama

Focusing on advanced privacy in blockchain and decentralized apps, Zama has raised a substantial amount of $130M in funding according to Crypto Rank. Even though the airdrop isn't officially announced, there's a strong community belief that this might be a big one.

One of the reasons I chose Zama on my short-list is that we are very early since their testnet was launched just a couple of days ago. This is a huge advantage because the one thing I've noticed with testnet farming is that the early birds are highly valued. We might receive an OG role, for example, that might act as a multiplier at TGE or even be a requirement to qualify for the airdrop.

So, how to take part?

  • Go to https://portfolio.demo.zama.ai/ and connect your EVM wallet Rabby, MetaMask, etc.).
  • Claim testnet tokens from the faucet (both Sepolia ETH and USDZ)
  • Go to the transfer section and send some of the tokens to a friend (or you can send them to me: 0x51D7d09cC57511dBcbe455B51cBB686E83052d1E)
  • Click Shield. Swap USDZ to sUSDZ and back again.

By the time of writing this, the testnet is paused due to the heavy usage, but will be back soon.

While waiting for that, you can:

  • Join their Discord
  • Get roles by connecting your guild account, or create one if you haven't already: https://guild.xyz/zama
  • After you have completed the guild tasks, go back to Discord and verify your roles on the 'Roles' channel. I only did 2 out of 3 and got the 'Guild Connected' role.
  • Complete other tasks on top of the Guild page to get more roles 👇.

Testnets like Zama require quite a bit of attention(and probably time as well), so be sure to follow their updates on X & Discord. Be patient and consistent. Don't sybil.

MegaETH + GTE

The MegaETH layer 2 project aims to speed up transactions significantly compared to the Ethereum mainnet and other L2s such as OP & Arbitrum.

Their testnet isn't officially incentivised either, but I'm pretty sure that when it happens, being an early, active user counts for possible airdrops. MegaETH has raised $57M in funding, so even as a 'potential' airdrop, I think it's worth the shot.

Besides, one of the protocols on MegaETH, GTE, has also raised a big sum, $26M. So, even as both still have the potential status on them, we could be farming two airdrops simultaneously when interacting with MegaETH and GTE.

How to start? What to do?

  • Go to https://testnet.megaeth.com/#1 and enter your EVM address, claim tokens
  • Go to Fluffle Tools: https://www.fluffle.tools/
  • Explore different apps here. Mint NFTs on Rarible, track your progress with Bingo, etc.
  • On Fluffle Tools, you can also find GTE
  • Make some swaps on GTE, provide liquidity, and launch a token.
  • You can also buy Greener Candles $CANDLE token if you wish! 😀

MegaETH has a bit similar feel to it like Monad, which I've covered earlier. A lot of apps to interact with and a vibrant NFT space. While I think Monad might be somewhat diluted at this point, MegaETH could still be worthwhile trying. Besides, making a swap or two and minting NFTs should only take a couple of minutes per day, so not that time-consuming.

Camp Network

This one is a little bit different since the Camp Networks Summit Series consists of many quests to complete. These include following the social accounts of different apps, minting NFTs, playing games, etc.

This might end up being very time-consuming, and it reminds me of the Movement chains Parthenon testnet a lot. Same formula, kind of. Still, that's the main reason I chose to participate in Summit Series as the Movement airdrop was very good to me. As the outcome of most testnets is uncertain, I've chosen to follow the patterns that have been delivered before.

Camp.jpg

Camp has raised $29M and according to Crypto Rank, their airdrop is confirmed. That being said, I would advise keeping up with announcements on their Discord and X to keep you up to date on all sorts of events that might give you an advantage. There are a lot of people farming these kinds of airdrops, and many with multiple wallets, so projects usually come up with some special tasks to separate real users from sybils. So following socials is a must.

Conclusion

It all comes down to time.

There are so many free testnets out there, and if it were certain that they all would be worth my time, I'd take part in every one of them. Since that's definitely not the case, we must be selective.

I'm currently spending about 5-10 minutes on all three. I actually have a checklist on Google Docs which I go through daily and which I've planned in a way that I won't be spending too much time on single one of them. I know that I've probably fallen behind with Camp, for example, but I just can't spare any more time right now. If I get something on TGE, great. If I don't, it doesn't matter; I didn't waste that much time on it anyway.

In the end, more than being a hardcore user, I think staying consistent will be as rewarding, since we get to take more of those shots in the dark with multiple airdrops as we allocate our time wisely. Still, out of so many projects out there, it's good to choose the most promising ones, and I think these ones have great potential.
