The unsung Hero (My cleaning activity on 03/03/2024

Good day, Clean Hive Frens, lovers of a cleanplanet. Today just like other days is that time to clean our environment, our city. Because for one thing, its future and safety lies in our hands.

I left to my workplace this morning, I had this intention of tidying up the environment by picking the litters all over the premises and its environs. I planned on doing so and waiting on the environmental agents to pass by with their vehicle so that I can dispose of the refuse I gathered.

After my cleaning activity, it didn't take a long while before I noticed this Refuse disposer. In my city, refuse disposers are people who move around with their trucks or wheelbarrows, going to different streets and areas to collect dirts from people while charging them considering the size of their dirts.

I tag these men unsung heroes because they were there for years when there weren't any environmental sanitation vehicles coming to take these refuses away to be disposed. They would endure the scorching sun, the heavy rain, even the odour and weight of the trucks the take along with dirts in them.

Since these environmental sanitation vehicles take these refuses for free, and the several big waste bins provided in several locations in the city are available for anybody to drop their dirts without charging them, it had drastically reduced the patronage these refuse disposers or collectors get. But they are resilient, determined to "eke out a living' rather than stay idle. This is their means of survival and since there is little or no employment for a lot of people, they are not stopping anytime soon. They know that in one way or another, there are people out there who would need their service, who wouldn't subscribe to waiting till whenever the environmental sanitation vehicles come by or who are too busy to go to waste disposal locations themselves.

I thought about patronizing him, so I called on him to stop. He waited while I brought down the dirts I had already gathered in the waste basket. We agreed on a fee and he poured the whole refuse into his container.

These men are really underrated. it is true that they charge money for the service they render but that shouldn't take us away from the fact that not everyone could do the work they do. It's high time we started giving them the accolades they deserve.

I took some pictures from my cleaning exercise...
