RE: A Silver Souvenir from Baghdad

Your experience there sounds very similar to my dad's experience in Vietnam as a member of the Navy on base. He actually got along better with the local people he worked with versus the other soldiers and besides getting shelled every now and then it wasn't super horrible for him.

The Iraqi people are really nice, there were the elements that didn't like Americans but I never met any of them personally. They were the ones trying to blow us up... As an officer you really don't mix much with the enlisted soldiers (except those in my office), my sergeant took care of all that stuff which was nice. War zones really aren't all that bad as long as you aren't a private on the front lines.

Yeah, my father in law had a much different experience in Vietnam. I am glad your time in Iraq didn't scar you like it did many people.

Afghanistan was a different story... Iraq really wasn't too bad, I really enjoyed my time there!
