Watch out!

Hopefully my weekend ahead is going to be a little less stressful than the last one. I think we might only have one live sports event that we need to attend and then I plan on spending some time standing next to my grill or sitting on my deck relaxing. Maybe I will even get out and throw a round of disc golf if I am lucky. We will have to wait and see.

@mrsbozz and I drove down to a town called Ortonville last night to watch our nephew play in a football scrimmage. It was an interesting format where both the 8th grade and 7th grade teams were on the field at the same time. It was sort of a half court basketball sort of situation, but with football.

One team played offense for 20 minutes with a running clock while the other team played defense. Then they switched and flipped sides of the ball for another 20 minutes. After the first 40 minutes they took a five minute break for the pom squad to do a dance, then they did the same thing again but 10 minute running clocks. In all the whole game lasted just a little over an hour which was awesome.

I don't know if you have ever been to a youth football game, but those things drag on forever. It isn't that I don't like football, but I swear, every single play someone gets hurt and it ends up extending the game a full hour for stoppages due to some kid getting his bell rung.

This scrimmage format was much more streamlined and even my wife said that she actually preferred watching them play this way. It's also a lot less stressful because there is nothing on the line with a scrimmage in terms of wins and losses. Our nephew had some awesome blocks in the game on the offensive side and their QB had basically all day to decide what to do with the football. It was fun to watch!

College football returns for week three this weekend. If I had to pick out a few games for you to focus on (6)Georgia vs (15) Tennessee is looking pretty good. That might be a really exciting game to watch in the late afternoon of Saturday. In fact, I might need to move my TV out to the deck just to watch this game while I am smoking some turkeys on the good old Weber Kettle.

Both teams are 2-0 on the season, so it will be interesting to see who wins this match up.

I'd also like to point out the (18) South Florida vs. (5) Miami Hurricanes game. I fully expect "The U" will win this game, but it could be good. Again, both teams are 2-0, so someone will get their first loss.

Finally, you might want to also keep your eye on (16) Texas A&M and (8) Notre Dame. Despite being 0-1 on the season, The Fighting Irish are still highly ranked given their one loss was to another ranked opponent. Given this is a home game for them, I fully expect Notre Dame will hand the Aggies their first loss of the season, but crazier things have happened...

At 3:30 along with the Georgia/Tennessee game, my Michigan State Spartans will be taking on the Youngstown State team. We were actually going to try and go to this game because our nieces boyfriend plays for The Penguins of Youngstown State, but as a freshman it doesn't appear he will be playing this year or even traveling with the team.

I fully expect the Spartans to walk away with this one, but again, crazier things...
