Not so Sweet!

Similar to my post from my main account last week, I was hoping for a bit more fireworks this 4th of July holiday as my nieces travel softball team headed over to Indianapolis for a tournament. That isn't to say they didn't have some good games, but bracket play continues to be a bit of a struggle for them. Oddly enough, I think they have the talent to do really well in tournaments like this, but so far the pieces just haven't completely clicked.
On top of that, it feels like my niece might be struggling with a bit of a hitting slump right now. I haven't talked to her about it and quite honestly I probably won't. I am sure she already has a fair amount of self dialog going on concerning it. I'm also sure she has just about everyone in her orbit trying to give her advice and sometimes all the noise can just be a bit too much.
She knows I am proud of her and I intend to give her all the space she needs to work it all out.
The action started on Wednesday With a 5 to 1 win over the Mojo Hallock team. Then they followed that up with a tough 3 to 2 loss against a Midwest Speed team.
Thursday they only had one game and it ended up being a close tie with the Wheatland Spikes Premier team. That was actually a really good game despite the outcome. My wife and I were watching it go back and forth back and forth until the time ran out.
Finally, pool play finished up on Friday with a huge 12 to 2 victory over Diamond Dynamics Select and then a 12 to 3 loss against Cincy Doom Premier, but that wasn't really a game I would count. I will talk a bit more about that tomorrow, so be sure to check back.
Saturday morning they had their first bracket play game against the Indiana Bombers team and it was an thriller that went into extra innings before the ladies ultimately lost the game 9 to 8 and ended their holiday weekend prematurely.
I have a feeling they didn't feel too bad about having to head home early, but I know that some of these ladies are hungry for a tournament finish. I really hope it happens for them because they are very quickly running out of time. I think they have one more weekend before they make their final trip to Florida and then many of the ladies will be heading off to University and never playing together again.
It's quite bittersweet, but I am still excited to see how my niece does with her new team. We already have plans in the works to travel to one of her Fall games.
