LLWS Day Two!

As I indicated in my post yesterday, the games have begun and things are in full swing (pun intended) for the Little League World Series. I want to say there was a flurry of action yesterday, but really it was just four games. That's pretty much the max they are going to be doing from now until Aughst 24th when the championship game happens. Actually, in case you were interested, the final game of the series is considered game 38. That means with four games being played yesterday, we still have 34 games to go before we get to the payoff.

I'm still a bit disappointed that they split the bracket into a US side and an International side. I kind of understand why they did it, but I also don't like to see that separation. As I said yesterday, I feel like it leads more to a "us versus them" sort of thing as opposed to celebrating young men who are competing at the highest level in their age group.

It would be much cooler in my opinion if they had mixed the bracket up a bit and had US teams playing International teams in the earlier rounds. Sure, you might end up with two US teams facing each other in the final, but with it being a double elimination bracket, there is always the possibility for teams to fight their way back.

Plus, what isn't to say the second place team in the US bracket couldn't wipe the floor with the first place team from the other side or vice versa.

Honestly, now that I think about it, it's that vice versa they are probably most worried about. How bad would it look if it was two International teams facing off in the Championship game. Knowing the mentality of most Americans they wouldn't even bother tuning in...

I still don't agree with it, but I at least understand their train of thought now.

So Mountain destroyed Great Lakes 16 to 1 yesterday and Metro squeaked past Southwest 1 to 0. Meanwhile, on the International side of things, Panama took down Australia 7 to 2, and Latin America blanked Puerto Rico 5 to 0. Remember, it's double elimination, so those teams still have a chance to fight back.

Today we have Japan facing Europe/Africa and Mexico taking on Asia/Pacific on the International side of things. Meanwhile on the US side we have Southeast vs. New England, and Midwest vs. Mid-Atlantic.

In case you were wondering...

Mid-Atlantic - Pennsylvania
New England - Massachusetts
Southeast - South Carolina
Midwest - South Dakota
Mexico - Chihuahua
Japan - Tokyo
Europe/Africa - Czechia
Asia/Pacific - Taipei

As always, I will be back either tomorrow or Monday with the results from all the games that are getting played this weekend.

Be sure to check back!
