Let's Go Tigers!

It's hard to believe my nephew was ever that small. Now he is a teenager and while he still might be a Detroit Tigers fan, he is playing baseball instead of just cheering from the sidelines. In fact he is on two different teams. My wife and I have been down to see him play a couple of times, but we are hoping to get down to at least one or two more games.

You can tell this is his second year of playing and the kids are still learning the basics. My nephew is passionate about the things he is involved in though, and I think that is going to pay off for him big time as he gets more practice and experience.

He is also on a flag football team that is part of a league with his younger brother and sister. We haven't seen him play since last year, but even then he could throw a heck of a spiral. I think he could have a bit of a future ahead of him depending on which sport (if any) he decides to focus on.

My youngest niece has started playing softball and we were delighted to get a video last night of one of her first hits. It was a big deal for my whole family. The congratulation texts came flooding in once the original video was sent.

Speaking of the Tigers, they have been doing pretty awesome this season from what I hear. As I have said in previous posts, I can't follow the Tigers like I used to. YouTube TV pulled Fox Sports Detroit from their lineup and that was the main avenue for watching Tigers games in the state of Michigan. Even when they broadcast them on the major networks, you still can't watch them because of "blackout rules".

You have no idea how frustrating it is to go through the TV guide and see the Tigers listed on a channel. You get a bit excited thinking you can finally catch a game, only for you to head to the channel and be greeted with a black screen saying the game is blacked out in your region.

Stupid....

Last season was pretty memorable for the Tigers. They started off kind of slow, and then toward the end they somehow squeaked their way into the playoffs. I think it was due to a lot of "small ball" stuff on the field. I could be wrong though. Like I said, I wasn't able to watch the games.

Although they got knocked out of the playoffs, it seems that momentum has carried with them into this season. They currently find themselves sitting at the top of both the American League and the National League with 32 wins. Given the fact that only 49 games have been played this season, that is pretty awesome.

I saw a graphic the other day that said Torkelson (sp?) is on track to be listed with the recent Tiger greats like Cabrerra, Ordonez, and a handful of others. The fact that they are doing so well makes it sting even more that I am not able to watch them.

I just hope they can keep things up and that they don't flame out too fast. There is still a lot of baseball to be played this season. We are barely scratching the surface of the season.

The best I can do is follow them through the stat lines and box scores the old fashioned way. There is actually something really beautiful about baseball numbers when you start digging into them. It's like nerd heaven!
