An Epic Battle

I already touched on this in the post from my main account, but I found out last night that in her game on Wednesday evening, my niece hit the first home run of her university career. I'm over the moon excited for her and so proud. In case you haven't gathered from my posts in the past, while I enjoy NFL football, my true passion when it comes to American Football is college football.

It's actually kind of funny to say college and I have talked about this in the past because outside of the US college means something totally different I am told. In fact, I make an effort to use the term "university" more frequently now. So much so that when we were traveling this past weekend, my family made fun of me for calling it university instead of college. I then had to explain why to a collection of eye rolls.

Fun stuff!

In case you aren't aware, there is a pretty big game this weekend. Normally, I would be looking forward to it, but this weekend I could honestly care less. Given the fact that the game doesn't start until 7:30 on Saturday night, I am not even sure how much of it I will actually watch.

I'll get to that in a minute though.

Having just been down there visiting, I honestly didn't realize Virginia is doing so well this year. They are sitting at 6-1 which puts them near the top of the ACC just below Georgia Tech who are 7-0 on the season.

I expect number 16 Virginia should have a fairly easy time against the Tar Heels even though it is a home game for coach Belichick.

Number 18 South Florida is taking on Memphis at noon on Saturday as well. Both of these teams are 6-1 on the season, so while it might not be a big name showdown, it could end up being a pretty exciting game to watch. We also have UCLA who has been on a hot streak despite their 3-4 ranking heading into Indiana to take on the number two Hoosiers.

I have a feeling this will be a bloodbath, but you never know...

Number 8 Ole Miss is heading to Oklahoma to take on the number 13 Sooners, and number 15 Missouri is facing number 10 Vanderbilt in Nashville for another battle between two teams that are 6-1 on the season.

Both number 23 Illinois and Washington are 5-2 on the season, so that could be a fairly even match up. Other than that, things are pretty boring for the afternoon games baring some crazy upset that nobody sees coming.

I do like a good upset!

At 7:30 we have number 3 Texas A&M heading to Louisiana to take on number 20 LSU. I have a feeling Texas A&M will dominate this game, but Vegas has the margin pretty slim. Then we have my Michigan State Spartans taking on the number 25 Michigan Wolverines in East Lansing. This is an in-state battle that I usually look forward to every year, but the Spartans have been so horrible this year, I don't now if I really care.

The good news is, Michigan has been on a bit of a slide too, so there is a really really really really narrow chance that Michigan State might grab the home victory in this one. That could be what they need to make their way to a post season bowl game.

It might also be what they need to help the head coach keep his job. I was talking to my brother in law over the weekend and he actually said he wouldn't be sad if they fired John Smith from Michigan State and hired the Penn State coach that just got fired.

I don't disagree with him.

We will see though.

If you don't care about football, you can always watch the second game of the world series on Saturday too. That takes place Saturday at 8:00 PM in Toronto.
