PULA IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON - A WEDNESDAY WALK IN THE CITY
Today, early in the afternoon, I had to do some paperwork in one of the notary public offices in the city. The city in question is Pula, the nearest one to Medulin, the small seaside town where I live. I had to drive a little less than ten kilometers to reach the outskirts of the city.
I parked a little less than a kilometer from the city's historic center and walked to the notary. This opening photograph was taken pretty late on that walk when I wasn't far from the office. The notary public I needed to visit was, and still is, in a building just across the square shown in the picture and then about fifty more meters down one of the narrow streets that lead to other squares and crossroads of the old town. In the following photograph ...
... you can take a look at the area in which I left my car. The parking lot is across the street shown in the right part of the picture. This "Wednesday Walk" started there.
Here I zoomed in on the front facade of the building across the parking lot. That building was behind me when I was taking the previous photograph.
Here you can see a chunk of the pretty big, robust building in front of me. It's a police station. By far the biggest police station on the peninsula. In the following photograph ...
... you can see almost the entire building. Some parts are still hidden by other buildings and vegetation, but most of the police station is visible in this shot. I didn't get closer to the police station on my way to the notary ...
... but I had to pass very close to the equally big insurance company building. Its glass surface that mirrors the surroundings looks very good against the backdrop made of blue sky sparsely decorated with white clouds.
This is probably the most iconic of the modernist buildings of Pula. If you take a good look at all the details in this shot, you'll probably notice the police station reflected on the glass of the insurance company. In the following photograph ...
... I got closer to that reflection.
The illusion looked slightly different ...
... when seen from a slightly different angle.
Here I zoomed in on one of the windows situated pretty high on the insurance office building.
You can see the reflective surfaces of two different buildings next to each other in this shot. The left, blue half of the picture is dedicated to the same insurance company, while the right, copper half shows a bank.
The bank isn't that close to the insurance company, in reality, it's about a hundred meters further, on the other side of a large crossroad with traffic lights that can put your patience through a pretty hard test. Waiting for the green signal can feel like an eternity.
Here you can see how the insurance company building looks when seen from the aforementioned crossroad.
This is the square from the beginning of the post. The opening photograph was taken from the terrace of the building shown in the background of this shot. In the foreground, you can see some stands that offer various products made on small family farms.
The stand in the center of this photograph offers honey and honeycomb.
Here I zoomed in on the stand with various edible oils. I mean, the oils are the main thing here, but I saw some juices too.
This is the honey & honeycomb stand again. I zoomed in a bit more so you can take a better look at the details in this shot.
Here you can see the line of bars and restaurants in one of the nearby streets.
Here you can see the other side of the oil & juice stand introduced "a couple of pictures ago."
Soon I climbed the stairway shown in this photograph, one of the six stairways of the iconic market building from the first years of the 20th century ...
... and photographed the square from a nicely elevated point that successfully conveys the beauty of that part of the city.
Once in the building that hosts the notary office, I took one photograph that shows a bit of its interior.
I also had the opportunity to photograph that part of the city from a new angle. This and the following photograph ...
... show the view from the window on the second floor.
This last photograph, I took on the way back to the car. The buildings shown here aren't far from the parking lot.
AND THAT'S IT. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE TOUR. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.
What a beautiful town, dear friend @borjan, I love the mix of style of its constructions, the period buildings look well preserved, while the modern ones have given you beautiful reflections
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate you letting us know about this Wednesday walking experience.
Have a beautiful afternoon
Thank you. 🙂Have a great day.
That building is so fine, I I wish I would be as good at photography as you are, but I am only trying.
Trying is a good thing to do. 🙂 It leads to better results sooner or later. 😃Being inspired to show something through photography and having fun while photographing also helps a lot.
Yeah, I will keep practising.

Nice day for a walk. That police building ought to look more like a cottage so people would feel police are more friendly than intimidating. Modern buildings don’t look so artistic or soft! The market still has the usual human charms and warmth.
🙂 Good observations.

Yes, definitively the same kind of architecture. 😀 I played the game long ago but didn't remember this thing. Good observation!
The city looks beautiful. It isn't crowded. Meanwhile, Pula in our language means Red.
🙂 That's a cool fact about the colors and languages.
It is so funny how I have never for once seen a picture of Croatia or maybe I have never take note of it but the pictures are really beautiful
Croatia will be a nice place to visit
It's a small country. 😃 But fortunately it gets shown here on Hive from time to time.
Bonitas construcciones que hay en tu país , muy modernas..
El edificio del seguro está muy moderno y bonito...
An in-depth zoom in
All these buildings are very beautiful and their maps are also good. When the clouds are over, the time passes very well.
It is a pleasure to walk through Pula thanks to your street lens!!!... Bravo!

If you ever met a Romanian, he would no doubt have told you what the name of the city means in Romanian.
Yes, I heard it from Romanian tourists a decade ago. 😃 That's the first time I heard it from Romanian people. Before that, I heard it from locals who heard it from Romanians before me 😂 but then I thought that maybe it's some kind of urban legend. I was completely sure only when I heard it directly from the Romanians.
That Pula word in Romanian is the most hilarious fun fact about the city. 😁
Fun fact: it's also the name of the official currency of Botswana. Now imagine the jokes in Romanian about this! :-)
