MORNING IN PULA

My ID card expired five days ago, so I had to visit the city yesterday. After finishing the stuff that would get me a new one about three weeks from now, I took a short walk to one of the bakeries near the open-air market for fruit and vegetables.
All I just said hasn't much importance for today's post. The important thing is that I took a few photographs along the way.

Here you can see the street corner where I found about half of the material I'll present in the post. A mini truck with the street sweepers and their equipment was passing by when the photograph was taken. I like this little vehicle very much. It looks cartoonish when compared to other machines that roam the streets of the city.

... you can see a real estate advert that shows another city, the small city of Porech, or more precisely ...

... a brand new residential complex on the outskirts of the old, picturesque city about thirty kilometers north of Pula.

Another advert on the same facade showed a similar contemporary architecture from the outskirts of Pula. I never saw the building shown in the advert live. I mean, I don't remember seeing it. Here, in the confined world of the billboard the building is the only protagonist but in reality, surrounded by other buildings and other usual suburban stuff there's no good reason to notice or remember something generic like this.
The new and the suburban are embedded into the older core of the city through this advert.

This is the same street corner again. A small red car was passing through the scene when the photograph was taken. A bit of vivid red certainly can't hurt. In the absence of mushrooms and flowers, a car must give a bit of color to the scenery.

The thing was finished in 1979 and was pretty showy and exuberant back then compared to other stuff around it.

In this photograph, you can compare the architectural elements of the bank with those of the neighboring building. It's cool to see such different textures and materials next to each other.

Here you can take a look at the passage that's part of an old department store building. This was the biggest store in the city when I was a kid, a marvelous place with a moving staircase. Now is empty. It started declining in the late nineties with the arrival of new supermarkets on the outskirts of town and was definitively shut down in 2017.
The old city is always changing but the changes aren't so obvious and visible. The exterior isn't very different. Most of the old stuff is always there, but as time passes, the dynamics and lifestyles get almost unrecognizable.

AND THAT'S IT. THE MORNING STARTED WITH A TEDIOUS CHORE IN ONE OF THE OFFICES IN PULA BUT, THANKS TO THE POWER OF PHOTOGRAPHY, IT TURNED INTO A FUN EXPLORATION OF ONE FRAGMENT OF THE CITY.
