FIGS FOR BREAKFAST
I often have a handful of figs for breakfast during the second half of summer. It's great to walk barefoot the short distance from my bed to the garden and start the day with sweet, juicy fruits.
That's all today's post is about and is surprisingly long when you take into consideration that the thing is basically about me eating some figs.
Here you can see an ordinary, well-matured fruit ready to be eaten. In the following photograph ...
... the fig is in the palm of my hand.
In this set of four photographs, the fruit is slowly getting eaten. The fruit, shown in the following shot ...
... doesn't look as good but it tastes even better.
When the summer is especially hot and dry, like this current one that is slowly coming to its end, the fruits desiccate on the tree fairly quickly and become very similar to the dry figs one can buy in local grocery stores.
The semi-dry fruit is in the palm of my hand here, while in the following set of four photographs ...
... I'm enjoying my sweet, semi-dry breakfast in the garden.
The aroma of these partially desiccated figs is very similar to the intense taste of those properly dry ones I sometimes get from the grocery stores in winter, but since my semi-dry figs are less dry, the meal is juicier and therefore better. On the smallest of my five fingers shown in the above photograph, especially if you enlarge the picture by clicking on it, you'll notice a very small beetle that probably came out of the fruit.
In this crop of the previous photograph, you can take a better look at the tiny insect. I never saw it before, and I can't tell you the name or anything else about this species. The family is probably Nitidulidae but I could be wrong. If the beetle came from the fruit's interior, I probably ate quite a few of these insects this summer.
Here you can see the other side of the same fruit on the palm of my hand.
The fig-eating beetle shown in this photograph is much bigger.
The name of the species is Protaetia aeruginosa. The family is Scarabaeidae.
Here you can take a look at the foliage that can make your skin itchy if you spend too much time in contact with these large leaves. I saw Adam and Eve wearing these kinds of leaves in some Bible-inspired artworks. Those poor people must have gone through an itchy hell the next day or just a couple of hours later.
One of the trees in my garden produces beautiful indigo-violet figs. One of those fruits is posing on the palm of my hand in this shot. In the following set of six photographs ...
... I'm eating the fruit.
Here you can see the partially desiccated version of the indigo-violet fig that will be eaten in the following set of four photographs.
Yep. You can see me eating the fruit here.
A couple of days ago, while eating and photographing the dark violet figs ...
... I noticed a beautiful jewel hanging from the center of one of the ripe fruits.
The red juice looked great illuminated by the morning light.
I'm eating another indigo-violet fig in this set of four photographs.
I'm just one of the creatures that eat these fruits in my garden.
Here you can see a group of Camponotus lateralis ants around the hole that leads into the fruit.
I'm pretty sure I ate quite a few ants during my summer breakfasts.
Here you can see the lovely Vanessa atalanta butterfly feeding on the sweet juice that's pouring out of the slightly overripe fruit.
AND THAT'S IT. HAVE A GREAT DAY, OR NIGHT, WHEREVER IN THE WORLD YOU ARE. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END

Fig-aliscious!
Awesome fig photographs! @borjan
It's always interesting to see how fruits look in their natural environment before they are available for purchase at the market.
🙂
Ripeful figs

I'm not really a huge fan of figs on their own. However, their intense sweetness I have tasted in many Moroccan meat dishes while on Holiday in Agadir, Morocco (also in Turkey).
In food dishes they taste great I discovered !LOL
Awesome photos, A fig heaven you might say!

Yes 🙂 figs are a bit of an acquired taste. I know quite a few people here who don't like them. They usually say this is too sweet with no trace of citrus-like flavors. I like this kind of sweetness for example the most. Figs, dates, persimmons, stuff like that. With that said, I'm a big fan of all kinds of fruits. Fruits are my favorite food and with whatever kind of fruit around, I absolutely don't need any man-made sweets.
You sure having a fig feast in your garden. I'm not sure if we have that fruit in our Country, but I'm curious, with it's taste, the look of it's inside and the smell.
I have never tried this fruit yet,. not sure if this has been cultivated in my country or not yet.
The beetle is really diving down inside the fig. Must be really tasty.

It is also fun to eat fresh things in this way. When I also go inside the village like this, I also take mango and banana things and eat them together. It is very fun.
I never seen figs in person yet. I first read them in the Bible, the fig tree.
We don't have it here in our place that's why I am more curious about it but you mentioned it is sweet. For sure it is really yummy.
Figs at break first is not bad. They are good to taste. I love it. But variety here is very different from yours.
Yes. 🙂 There are plenty of varieties around. I saw many different ones in documentaries and on the Internet. Hope I will travel the world more in the next few years and see more in person.
Leaves me to wonder...
Me being still alive and pretty healthy is one of the proofs. 😄 I rarely inspect what I eat when it comes to the fruits. I leave only the visibly rotten stuff, everything else goes. And it goes with whatever worm, ant, or beetle is inside.
I have no idea how figs taste like. Too bad it doesn't grow in our country.
I often hear figs but I haven't got to eat one. I hoped it grows here.
Heavenly views for someone who likes figs as me 😀
That bug, that is stuck in the fig looks like it got drunk from the tasty fig and fell asleep there 😂
🕷️😄🕷️ There is a good chance that it went exactly that way.
🕷️
When we are walking around I usually stop in front of the fig trees, looking for a fruit so I can do the same as this bug :D
😄
Figs... This look so yummy.
I sometimes cook jam with figs
Me too. 🙂 Fig jam is my favorite jam.

I have heard of Figs but I haven't had the opportunity to know what it taste like
But looking at the picture alone I can tell what it tastes like😊
🙂
It looks like your fig tree is feeding a lot of different insects and animals, and not just you! 😃
Great photos! So realistic that I can feel the taste of the figs!
Thanks for sharing!
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!
Yes 😄 an interesting little ecosystem revolves around those trees.
Esos higos se ven muy jugosos y sabrosos yo quiero comer uno
Really cool post my friend. Can't recall ever eating an actual fig (though I'd very much like to!). I do quite enjoy fig jam. Not sure if you get that in your country?.. really cool on bread/toast! Lmao, that beetle must be having a blast haha. Seems like quite a few awesome creatures frequent these wonders of nature.
Yes. 🙂 Fig jam is very good.
