LOH Contest #251: The 3 Values that Guide Me (ENG-ESP)
#1. Integrity
Integrity is one of the leading influences in my life. I heavily believe that truth is the foundation, the building block for a truly wonderful life. It has reached a point where I cannot lie on the spot; there is no benefit to being intentionally deceitful. Nothing can be gained through willful ignorance.
I always find it ironic. We, as human beings, consider honesty to be of top value. We find honest people to be admirable... yet, we have a difficult time practicing it ourselves.
I have no other way to view this outlook as nothing more than laziness. Rather than make an effort, we would rather take the underhanded method. We expect others to be honest with us, but we could never do others the same service. It is why I practice integrity daily.
I want to be surrounded by like-minded people, and even if this is not the case, practicing honesty makes it easier to spot the liars.
#1. Integridad
La integridad es una de las principales influencias en mi vida. Creo firmemente que la verdad es la base, el pilar fundamental para una vida verdaderamente maravillosa. He llegado a un punto en el que no puedo mentir en el acto; no hay ningún beneficio en engañar intencionalmente. Nada se gana con la ignorancia deliberada.
Siempre me parece irónico. Nosotros, como seres humanos, consideramos la honestidad de suma importancia. Consideramos a las personas honestas admirables... pero nos cuesta practicarla nosotros mismos.
No tengo otra forma de ver esta perspectiva como simple pereza. En lugar de esforzarnos, preferimos el método turbio. Esperamos que los demás sean honestos con nosotros, pero nunca podríamos hacerles el mismo servicio. Es por eso que practico la integridad a diario.
Quiero estar rodeado de personas con ideas afines, e incluso si no es así, practicar la honestidad facilita detectar a los mentirosos.
#2. Humor
While this may be a strange one to include, the value of humor is extremely underrated. I went through very traumatic events throughout my life, from childhood and onwards, and if not for finding humor during these dark circumstances, I may very well have lost my mind! 😵💫
It takes an immense amount of strength and courage to be able to make light of difficult situations. It is why I admire those who are able to do so with humility and dignity. Robin Williams and Jim Carey are two people that I have always admired for remaining resilient through their comedy.

#2. Humor
Aunque parezca extraño incluir esto, el valor del humor está extremadamente subestimado. Pasé por eventos muy traumáticos a lo largo de mi vida, desde la infancia en adelante, y si no hubiera sido por encontrar el humor en esas circunstancias oscuras, ¡quizás habría perdido la cabeza! 😵💫
Se necesita una inmensa fuerza y valentía para poder tomarse a la ligera las situaciones difíciles. Por eso admiro a quienes son capaces de hacerlo con humildad y dignidad. Robin Williams y Jim Carey son dos personas a las que siempre he admirado por su resiliencia a través de su comedia.
#3. Faith
Of course, there is one thing that is responsible for ALL of my core values, and that is religion. Having been raised Christian from birth, I was given the classic dogma that we were simply to obey, never think about, or question. Naturally, I became very rebellious, and abandoned religion entirely for making me follow the rules so blindly.
Throughout my life, I have undergone many battles with my faith. I accepted it, I left it, I am pleased with it, I am upset with it... Today, now that I am able to interpret religion for myself, I am in a much better place with it. I strongly believe that God is real, and so I actively try to live the Bible and Jesus' teachings in my daily life.
#3. Fe
Por supuesto, hay algo que es responsable de TODOS mis valores fundamentales: la religión. Habiendo sido criado como cristiano desde mi nacimiento, me inculcaron el dogma clásico de que simplemente debíamos obedecer, sin pensar en ello ni cuestionarlo. Naturalmente, me volví muy rebelde y abandoné la religión por completo porque me obligaba a seguir las reglas tan ciegamente.
A lo largo de mi vida, he luchado mucho con mi fe. La acepté, la abandoné, estoy contento con ella, estoy disgustado con ella... Hoy, ahora que puedo interpretar la religión por mí mismo, estoy mucho mejor con ella. Creo firmemente que Dios es real, y por eso intento activamente vivir la Biblia y las enseñanzas de Jesús en mi vida diaria.

Okay, let's have it, honesty as a daily habit. I love that. It is funny how we ask for honesty from others but backtrack when we have to be honest ourselves and sliding in humor alongside integrity? Real talk finding a joke in dark times is not just coping, it is survival. That mix of truth and laughter? That is the real power combo.
