Exploring Canada's Richest Museum (The Royal Ontario Museum)
Our family recently took an outing to the Royal Ontario Museum last week! 😀 This was an event we had planned for awhile, and one that I was very excited about, for despite the fact we only live a couple of hours away, I had never visited this national treasure before. So my husband and our family, and my daughter-in-law and her family, all took an outing to the museum! 😄
Before we delve into everything, I just want to provide some background information 🙏
The Royal Ontario Museum is one of the largest museums in all of North America -- the largest in all of Canada! 🇨🇦 It was originally founded in 1912, and today it is home to over 18 million unique items and displays! 😱
Today, the museum is broken down into 5 main exhibits. They are: ancient China, ancient Greece and Rome, ancient Egypt, Earth and nature/wildlife, and fossils and crystals.
Now, obviously I did my best to incorporate as much as possible from every floor, but again, this is one of the world's largest museums with over 18 million items. It also doesn't help that the fossil and crystal area was closed off during our visit 🙄 Of course, the one area we were all looking forward to seeing the most!
But anyway! I have done my best to include as much as possible, including a number of written descriptions. Please enjoy! 🙏
(This is a giant totem pole that accompanies you during your trips on the staircase. I'm pretty sure it extends all the way to the top! 😱 Unfortunately we had strollers with us, so I never had the chance to see)
(Ancient Chinese gate)
(A close-up of some of the gate's details)
(An ox/horse cart. The intricate woodwork is phenomenal...)
(Our oldest, admiring the Chinese jade figurines)
(Family photo in front of the Chinese gate! 😄 Honestly this was probably my favorite exhibit in the entire museum, it was incredibly colorful and detailed...)
(Standing in front of an ancient Chinese tomb...)
(This was part of the fossils and crystals area that was closed due to construction...)
(Ancient Roman pottery and figurines. It was really cool to see the glazed art style; it reminded me of Hercules!)
(Miniature-scale version of a Greek city)
(Some busts of historical Greek and Roman figures)
(Headwear that the Roman warriors/Spartans used to adorn)
(Our oldest chasing my grandson 😂 I'm technically a 30-year-old grandmother!)
(The Athena Parthenos)
(Beautiful Greek marble statue. I will never comprehend how artists are able to create such lovely silk texture...)
(A peek into the ancient Egypt area...)
(A stone statue of one of the Egyptian gods)
(These stone walls of hieroglyphics were absolutely incredible. Every single tile was filled with so much detail, that I can only imagine how long it took to create such works of art...)
(One of the legendary sphinxes of the pyramids)
(The kiddies playing in the Egypt exhibit 😄)
(A mannequin portraying how the Egyptians would put on makeup -- and I'm not gonna lie, I thought she was a real person, this mannequin scared the 💩 out of me! 😅)
(Various Egyptian figurines, many of which are dedicated to the gods)
(An actual Egyptian sarcophagus 😱)
(An actual Egyptian MUMMY!! 😱😱)
