Does the Voice Match the Face?
Last night, I had a thought, and I honestly wonder if anyone else has bothered to mention it... Have you ever noticed how there are only a "set" number of voices in the world? Not only that, but how each archetype of person has a similar kind of voice?
Like, take an anime, for example. The cool guy always has a snarky, sexy voice. The buff guy always has an extremely deep, manly voice. The nerd: squeaky. The cool girl: smooth and pleasant. The female sidekick: perky with positivity.
And sure, there can be instances when the voice DOESN'T match the face, but this is often done for humorous purposes.
This was the case with me the other day. I was watching a video where two guys were playing a video game and doing voices for the characters. A tall, buff man with thick eyebrows and wearing a lumberjack jacket.

Of course, my initial thought was a deep, masculine voice, as mentioned earlier. Instead, one of the guys gave him a squeaky, female voice, with a British cockney accent and all! 😂
The whole thing completely threw me for a loop! It made me reflect on my first instinctive thought: why did I believe that he should possess that kind of voice? Well, because all of the archetypes before him have all had that kind of voice!
For example, what kind of voice do you think I should have, based on my face? It's funny because I mostly get told that my voice "surprised" people their first time hearing it 😄
Unfortunately, I don't have many voice clips of myself, but here is a video of my singing. If it's any consolation, I would say that my speaking voice is also very similar to Billie Eilish's voice. It is a deep feminine voice. I also do a bunch of silly voices, so it can change depending on the day and time! 😂
Yeah I’ve had plenty of situations where the voice doesn’t match the person! Or when you’re working with someone virtually for years then finally see what they look like, it’s pretty wild!
I do like when others mess with voices and make them completely opposite of what you’d think haha
